If Seguin is out for the season, the Stars all of a sudden have plenty of cap space.Enough to fit Andersson(50%) + Kadri, or Andersson + Coleman.

I wasn't actually thinking it was realistic for either side just that the value was out of whack and losing Coleman and Kadri while adding Wyatt wouldn't suddenly pull the Flames out of the lottery. Come on now he isn't that good

This is the conundrum with both Andersson and Kadri. IMO teams that will covet both players won't be parting with more than a first rounder (20-32OA) or a conditional pick and a B level prospect. I.E. they want the players, but they aren't prepared to remove their best young players from the roster to add them.

It's fine. The Flames can still make out ok moving them both and really benefit more from simply drafting higher as a result, but anyone expecting a huge haul in return should temper expectations. Especially if a guy like Andersson isn't extended or Kadri doesn't have salary retained.

What the Flames need is a team who has not been going for it over the past few years to step up with some offers on their assets. A team that has been building and looking to take the next step. A team that might not be after rentals but guys that can help now and moving forward. Detroit, Utah, Montreal, Minnesota, or maybe these teams bursting out of the rebuild like Anaheim.

These teams have picks, prospects and young players the Flames will want. Toronto, Dallas, Vegas, Florida etc just have very little left in the cupboards

Utah needs to shake things up. They have too many guys who are content to lose.

Kadri to Utah would be fantastic. I wonder if that's on his no-no list.

Yeah. They have so many good young players and prospects just from the volume of picks they have had over the last few years. Everyone loves to point out they will never trade Tij Iginla because he was their first draft pick after moving to Utah but I’d still make that the price to get Kadri this year if it’s Utah. They tried to hold Tij ransom from the flames at the 2024 draft… make them pay for it now if they really want an impact player on their roster this year to finally make the playoffs. I think the flames will have quite a few really good offers for Kadri - make Utah beat those offers with something really valuable.

Have to remember it will likely take an overpay in order to get Conroy to make the Kadri trade this year. Ritchie was ranked as high as Tij is now (in terms of league-wide prospects) when he was traded for Nelson.

Frank did mention that Utah was a team to watch, and with Sec214 posting gifs of Utah a few weeks ago, there could be something there.

I can't see Calgary moving Andersson, Kadri or Coleman together in a trade. I think you maximize the value of each if you move them in separate trades.

I would think that Dallas could use Andersson more than either Kadri or Coleman. They currently have Kolyachonok and Lyubushkin as their 2nd pairing. It also sounds like Bischel is going to be out long term.

A lot of time for them to turn it around. They have some injuries and I could see their coach being the first one fired but i think there is pressure there to move their program forward.

They got off to a great start and have really fallen back in the past 10 games or so

Utah has no elite scorers, and their depth is really struggling, and their goaltending is terrible.

Kadri to Utah would make a lot of sense for Utah. Kadri is under contract for another 3 years. He makes less than what they probably have to pay Schmaltz. With Kadri their 26/27 lineup would be the following with 19 million in space to sign 6 players

Peterka Cooley Guenther
Crouse. Kadri. Keller
McBain Hayton (RFA) Tanev
But. O’Brien

They would have limited gaps to fill on the backend or in net so they could probably get a second line winger with their cash.

They have Cooley who is on pace for 42 goals and they have Schmaltz and Peterka on pace for 30 goals and Guenther on pace for 27 goals . Those guys are tied for 16th, 45th and 57th respectively in the league for goal scoring.

I would say having 3 guys in the top 50 and 4 guys in the top 60 in a 32 team league would indicate that they certainly have goal scorers. Not sure what the definition of elite would be but the NHL only had 46 guys get 30 goals last year and only 8 got more than 40.

Vancouver wants to make trades but they don't want draft picks, they want to "stay competitive".

They are 30th in the league and have 6 regulation wins. Lol.

Can’t even think of a team that has done that recently in their position. Flames have got a draft pick in every trade they made of the old core (Toffoli, Lindholm, Zadorov, Tanev, Hanifin, Mangiapane, Markstrom). Perplexing decision by Vancouver.

Maybe Chicago when they traded for Seth Jones? Or Nashville maybe, but those were off season moves so not really a comparison

That is exactly what they need, but those teams ready to burst out will wait till Feb/March before deciding to sacrifice some prospects/picks for vets

Patience is the key
