I think so. How do I tell? I looked in storage and 23 GB is installed. I would assume the 1.4 GB update (1.01) wouldn't have installed without the main game installing first.

I only see other people have this issue with digital downloads. I don't see anyone having this issue with a physical disc like me. Maybe the disc is bad? But would I still be able to play the "demo" version of the main game if that was the case.? I did try the actual NHL 15 demo but deleted that a couple days before I attempted to play NHL 15 today.
Would Best Buy give me a replacement disc or a refund? I ordered it online through them.

I doubt they'd give you a refund. I can't see this being a defect of the disc. Have you tried uninstalling?

You'll probably like it. It is very realistic in regards to waiver wire, 1way/2way contracts, offer sheet compensation, scouting, trading, salary cap, etc. It's unfortunate that with the good scouting your draft choices are now auto selected. But they also trimmed some fat that I thought was a nuisance last version. Pre-season games were pointless and I always simmed through them anyways, and you still assign your eligible players to the AHL or CHL, you just can't play your affiliates games, which I never did anyways. It's actually quite fun to take a team and try to build a dynasty over a number of seasons while still remaining cap compliant.

So progression does happen with prospects?

Can you ignore all that stuff and just play the games over a season? I don't pay much attention to the behind the scenes world of hockey in real life, and I don't find it fun in the game.
I haven't bought the game in a few years because I think the gameplay has suffered since they've focused on all of these game modes I don't want to play.

To those upset about the auto draft thing, this seems to be because there is a patch coming in October that promises:
GM Draft
For the first time in the NHL franchise, you will be put on the clock and feel the pressure like real NHL GM’s. You will now only have 3 minutes to make a draft pick. If the pressure is too much, you can also call timeouts to extend the amount of time you have to make a draft pick or potentially negotiate a trade. You can make trades at any time during the draft. The CPU will also propose trades to each other and the user throughout the draft.
So that sounds pretty cool, I guess. I haven't played the game yet, but was planning on buying it. Offline GM mode is pretty much all I play so I'm excited for this update to be released.
To those who have played it already, can you still sim your AHL games and get box scores/stats?

No there basically is nothing to do with the ahl in gm mode which is a damn shame. Only thing you can do is send them down/call them up. And you can't see they're stats. It's pretty disappointing.

If you plan on buying it. I was at Target and they are having a sale on psn cards, 25% off. Picked up $70 worth for $52.50. I'm using it to buy Destiny since I got NHL through the E3 sale, but you can essentially get the digital version for 25% off.
PS plus memberships on sale as well. Got a year for $37.49. Good deals I figure.
Last day of the sale is tomorrow. Sept 11th.

Haven't made it through a whole season yet, but they have progression tracking, so the dumbass that initially said prospects down progress was way off. I'm assuming it might not have the 3 cellphone thing at the trade deadline and draft to make trades.

With progression tracking, is it really that necessary to see their stats though?

i'd love to hear more about be a gm from anyone who's gone through a year or 2?
- does the CPU offer you trades (during the year, at the deadline, leading into draft day)? are the cpu controlled teams making trades with one another?
- i'm about 2 weeks into year one myself, and checked out the free agents on the open market and there are plenty of 80+ dmen (didnt check the forwards) just sitting there (highest being an 84 if i recall). So does the CPU actually do anything to better the non-user teams?
- what's the value of scouting in the auto draft? I see there is a concept of "pinning" anyone know that works, and if it has any impacts on the autodraft results?
- any word on how the player progression is (ie. what was bennet/gaudrea's overall after year 1)?

You can't skip the Rangers - Kings game, it will bring you there first time no matter what. You have to actually go in, play the game, and then quit the game from the menu.
Them it should take you to the main menu.
