The thing I love most about this whole thing is it shows how one sided the media can be. They don't care about behaviour, they'll just attack him based on his character. If he didn't have such a big mouth, and wasn't fat, this would have blown over in less than a month. Just imagine if this was Nenshi smoking crack. The headlines would probably be "Hero mayor bravely battles addiction"
I'm not a Ford supporter or hater, I don't know enough about his actual politics to really comment on that side of things. I'm just in this for the entertainment value

^ If this had been Nenshi, you could count on multiple pages defending him, on CP.

It's unbelievable that people would still be blaming the media after all of this.
Aside from the substance abuse and just generally idiotic behaviour, those allegation papers that came out allege that Ford used city staff getting paid by taxpayers to frequently go to liquor stores for him, offered his staff when this all broke huge raises to stay and then hired his unqualified personal friends to fill the vacancies at almost double the previous wages. Graaaaaavy.
Time to realize there's no one to blame but Ford for his own actions here, this guy isn't a principled conservative and that he's doing major damage to your brand in the crucial toronto area. Then again if you haven't already and you're still finding angles to be partisan on, logic is probably out the window.

I feel like that's internally consistent though. If you're good for the city/province/country, I don't really care about your personal life. If you're not providing good government, then if you don't have a good image either, why should anyone defend you?

^Like I said, I know nothing about his actual politics, or past dealings for that matter. I just know that if this happened to a mayor that wasn't a fat idiot, it'd get reported on for a few days/weeks at the most, then most of the few that did care would forget.

Yeah like how Anthony Weiner is out of the spotlight in the US because he isn't fat...

Well, yeah, pretty much. Not nearly as many people heard about that one, that's not going to pull in ratings like a fat guy talking about drunken stuppors.
Hell, I'd say a lot of people only heard about it because his name is Weiner and they thought it was funny.

But aren't those oxymorons in politics? Especially at the municipal level.

Thing is, Ford is NOT battling his additions and he is not stepping down as he should.
The story is no longer about him smoking crack, or drinking issues or all the other stuff, the story is about hime not stepping down. He is a disgrace and should not be anywhere near a public office.
Had he stepped down 6 months ago (when he should have) when the video scandal started, we wouldn't be hearing about him now.

What are you even talking about? First of all, his big mouth IS his behaviour. Not only is he saying and doing stupid things, his proving he doesn't think it's a problem by what he's saying. That's behaviour!
Also, I would argue, and it has been said many times on the news, that if Rob had admitted he has a problem, and decided to take a leave of absence, he could have weathered this and come back even stronger than ever. Everyone loves a redemption story. But he didn't. His stubbornness and ego (and probably addiction) has prevented him from doing this and he's angered people in the process. That's behaviour again.
I don't think there is a left right media bias here as you seem to be claiming with your post, if that is the point of it. It doesn't really make much sense to be honest, because his behaviour has just as much to do with it as his character. Heck, even the Sun is piling on, so it's not liberal media spin.
It is doubtful it would be any different here or anywhere else. It would depend on what the mayor in question was doing and how they were reacting to the scandal.

I think that's the saddest part of this whole thing (and the senate scandal) - these outrageous incidents reinforce the general feeling that politicians are equally unscrupulous. I refuse to believe that

Also, a big reason that Ford may have been elected in the first place, was because his main opponent was a huge part of the billion dollar E-Health scandal when he was with the provincial government.

This whole thing is a media circus, and is capitalizing on the tragic behaviour of someone who is probably suffering from a severe addiction.
I'm sure, if you could hear many of the stories of people with severe addictions, you wouldn't be overly shocked at Ford's behaviour.
I hope he resigns from his job soon, and gets the help he needs to go on with his life.

The way he lets his mouth run off with no second thoughts makes me believe he's on something, either legal or illegal.

Listened to an interview with the spokesbrother today and he's blaming the media, the other councillors and even the Ontario premier. It was hilarious.
