So far only one American has needed any hospital time. It has been suggested that Americans might have some resistance to this strain of the flu which many Mexicans do not. If true hopefully that is also true for Canadians.

too late now... pandemic level 4 means sustained transmission from humans-to-humans.

I got home from work today and my kids are sitting in the house with hand sanitizer that my mother-in-law brought over for them to use at school. I'm not even sure if hand sanitizer is allowed at school. Its cute how she freaks out in weird little ways like that. Poor Nana.

I'm not sure this would work, the previous proposed protocol for dog extermination was a 15 year plan if I recall correctly.

This sucks. The whole time we're watching the damned birds and their flu, and all the while these filthy swine are plotting our demise. Jerks.

We all are aware that Rush limbaugh is just bat-crap crazy....but this is just bizzare, even for him.
He is blaming Obama for the outbreak.
Quote:
"[E]verywhere Obama is spreading Obamaism, there is a deadly disease taking place, either in the TARP community or in the newspaper business … Obama goes to Mexico — they have an earthquake. Obama goes to Mexico — get pig flu,

Fear mongering.. really? The media is merely reporting whats going on. I haven't heard any outlandish statements that have declared a pandemic. What makes this differ from SARS and bird flu is its ability to be transmitted between humans. Unlike the latter which was not as sustained. Although this might not be as bad as people think... I'd rather have Governments and the media prepare for the worst then downplay it and have to pay for it later. An un-educated population who doesn't know how to react is not what you want with highly communicable virus going around. The problem with the influenza virus is that no vaccines for new mutations can be realistically developed until researchers are sure of what it is. Often this doesn't occur until well after the virus has spread.

Even if this turns out to be a minor threat it is still a wonderful opportunity to gauge the systems and organizations in place. One day some virus or bacteria will come along that WILL be a threat to the entire population. Smaller exercises, like this swine flu, could make an actual global threat much less devastating.

If it wasn't for that group in Ottawa and the center for disease control in the US, Sars and the Bird flu would've been significantly worse than they ended up being. For example, SARS would've been equal to the spanish flu in terms of impact had there not been any action taken to quarantine and prevent.

That's the usual five-star reporting from the Herald.
