It is not, or ever, appropriate to dig out a 3 year old email, then post it on a message board in an attempt to ridicule someone you dont' agree with, or have a personal difference with. It's much, much worse when a moderator does it.

Bingo, I respect you and what you've made of this board, but even you have gotten too personal in your attacks against Lanny.

If anyone else other than Cowperson had posted an ancient, and if I understand, private email in order to mock another forum member, I'm quite certain it would have been pulled and the poster warned.

In this case, because of his 'status' on this board, Cowperson has been able to do what no one else would have been permitted to do.

I think that's wrong.

Bingo, I'd suggest you look at this thread with a dispassionate eye and consider whether it should remain on the board.

You would have a valid complaint if Lanny hadn't dared me to post it, even if he's in denial about it.

Lanny also knew the contents of it beforehand and he knew exactly what I would say about it beforehand as we had an exchange privately about it a week ago.

There were zero surprises for him in this thread. None at all.

Period. End of discussion. Trying to zip around those facts isn't going to work.

By the way, since we moved to the new format, I haven't bothered to ask what the password is for the Moderator handle so I'm a little out of the loop on that. In case you hadn't noticed, moderators shut down some threads I was in regarding the Martin Gelinas non-goal. Apparently I was arguing past the point of irritation.

I found your post illuminating and intelligently stated. Sucked it all in like a sponge. What is it with "ad hominum attacks" anyway? Geezus, talk American!! (Just kidding). Or was that an ad hominum attack?

What I've seen in your two posts is an observation on your part that Lanny frequently engages in abrupt, unprovoked and highly personal attacks with anyone who happens to cross his path, which might explain his banishment at Hockey's Future and cautions where ever else he turns up.

In addition, what I heard you say in your two posts is your belief this thread is similar in nature to a typical Lanny attack, even though Lanny openly invited the thread - dared me in fact - and knew ahead of time the contents.

In other words, he can't claim to be surprised or offer an assertion the thread was unprovoked.

Similar? I was amusing myself by jabbing him privately for a week until he unexpectedly threw out an invite to show the world.

He seems to be having second thoughts.

I don't recall putting myself on a pedestal above Lanny in any way shape or form.

In fact, earlier in this thread I wrote that he was down in the muck with the rest of us. Equals like. NOW.

I also defended his right to change his mind in case you hadn't noticed.

I voted for I do I do. I really miss hockey, I think as soon as the entire season gets cancelled I'm gonna go for the hitmen game package. I might even go back to getting Roughnecks season tickets. Will these things make me miss the flames less? Probably not, but they'll keep my busy.

1. FDW - both have been guilty of taking it personal. Pointless to step into the Hatfield and McCoy battle with gun shots going both way and lecture one side to stop shooting. I've told both to stop on many occasions.

2. Cowperson - where have I picked sides for Cow against Lanny. Lanny's been in my face through most of this dispute, so therefore I guess I'm picking my side - something I would suggest all of us are doing on this site, aren't we?

gotta tell you guys...this thread has really disappointed me. I have always considered Calgarypuck to be one of the few forums out there with rational people and arguments, where everything was kept pretty civil and intelligent. This thread is ridiculous. It was not started as a means of informing people or getting a laugh or anything like that. It was started as a means of continuing some childish fight between posters. I have no problem with Bingo taking sides and arguing in a debate, but this is one thread that should have been closed a long long time ago. I say next time ban Lanny for the swearing and personal attacks, ban Cowperson for the personal attacks, and CLOSE THE THREAD.

Unless you're Lanny, in which case you have the luxury of arguing both sides.

I have to tell you, unlike some, I LOVE this thread, more for the human drama, the taking of favourites, the base of human nature coming out in the crudest of manners on all sides, the amazing arguments of pseudo-intellectuals like FiveHole trying to explain Lanny and Cow's behavioural issues, the minute, line-by-line examination of 'what Lanny really meant' by those like Savvy27 who couldn't possibly favour Lanny's argument of three years ago but defends him anyway because he agrees with his current viewpoint and sees him as a champion, the eruption of side animosities between FDW and Mastadon, the debate over whether this was a private e-mail or not, the rubbing of hands in anticipation by some of the coming spectacle as the conflict developed, the fervent and appalled reaction of those who didn't want to see it to begin with but slowed down to gawk anyway like they were driving by a car wreck, even the Superfraggle call for a banning of myself as well as the probability of Lanny finding the whole swath of it as amusing as I do in spite of his red face and colourful rebuke.

You guyz are the best.

You know, I've got quite a few other Lanny PM's to myself I could trot out where we talk about other posters, issues and hidden treasures of knowledge BUT, . . . . alas, NO permission to reveal a private correspondence, NO reason for myself to badger a flippant challenge to reveal all . . . . . . and I don't think anything could top this anyway so why bother? :P

I think there's a difference between him and an ordinary "person of fatih", as you described it.

Usually a person prays as a means of self inspection where you ask yourself what god/jesus would do in a situation - becuase they are the embodyment of good, thus making the right/correct decision.

Do most people hear god's voice in their head?

I don't know too many people that would say that. Usually most people have a one way street of dialouge...And if the street does go both ways, the oncoming lane is usually pretty narrow.

The problem with Georgey - to me anyway - is that he seems to have a four lane super highway...

Kind of like undirect vs direct discourse.

And to me that's a little bit scary for a guy who has so much power at his disposal...

I don't know though Dis, it's really tough to have this sort of debate without offending people of faith - and I really don't want to do that. Not sure if this is really a good road to go down (especially considering how touchy everyone is around here right now)...

I'd be happy to communicate via the PM feature if you would like to go indepth with this.

I voted for meh who cares. Not wasting time watching hockey is allowing me to finish my basement much quicker than I could if I was watching a hockey game every third night. Now that we know we don't agree, let the personal attacks begin!!!

Wow. I think I have sent my last PM and last e-mail to anyone at this site. If Cowperson is representative of the level of privacy you can have here, then it just isn't worth sharing a private thought with anyone. Or maybe Cow's past as a reporter just means that he's used to betraying the confidence of others to further his own story. Guess he was sick the day they covered "ethics" at journalism school.
