The Prada skirt is worth it and so is the phone . Don't feel bad. What good is money if you can't spend it??
I am a big spender myself, only because I can afford it. Plus I like spending money for some reason.
I own about 17 pairs of Diesel jeans. I know, I know.. why do you need so many. I really don't have an answer, other than I like to have a nice collection. I have many Italian designer items in my closet. It's the only way I'll roll.
When I have a kid, I am sure things will change a bit. I'll just have to find baby Diesel jeans \
OK, after reading all the other posts, I think I may be a bad influence, so I better shut up.

Call it a "mad reservation" . . . . . the Missus booked us in at the $1,400 per night Penthouse Suite at the Chateau Lake Louise last month . . . . . we were going there anyway but she went top drawer, expecting me to order a cancellation the moment I heard about it . . . . but I thought it was a fine idea as well.
And I must say, it was actually worth it.
We probably spent about $1700 for about 20 hours.

With all due respect, knowing someone that went through it isn't the same as going through it.
I also don't want to offend or sound harsh, but it just seems like you have some growing up to do. You may need a cell, but you don't need a $1200 one. You may need work clothes, but you don't need a $400 Prada skirt or $550 skirt. You can look good without spending that much cash. You are being frivolous.
I have been on a fairly strict budget the last couple years as I was putting myself through school and one thing that really helped me was writing down all of my purchases, big and small ones. It really helped me see where I was spending my money and how much I was wasting. You may want to try doing that.

Nope, I'm a lone wolf. Just putting in my time until some pharmaceutical company wants to pay me the big bucks. As much as I complain about not having much money, I'm still doing ok and I get plenty of help from my friends and family. There is something about being self-sufficient that is very rewarding.

Miss Kat - Have you read the Shopaholics Series by Sophie Kinsella? You sound like Becky Bloomwood!
Hmmm, I'm kind of torn on the whole issue. I think of myself as a very good budgeter, but I do like to spoil myself on purses and jeans. Those are my only big fetishes, so I figure it's excusable. I am not interested in TVs, or B&O sound systems, or anything like that, so purses and jeans are my little treat to myself.
I would never allow myself to rack up any debt over my purchases though, and if I owed ANYONE money, they'd be paid back first, before I'd ever think of buying myself a pair of Sevens. The idea of owing money to others is just unthinkable to me. I just can't stand when people live paycheque to paycheque, or BORROW money to buy these things. I just find that a little pretentious - can't even live within your means, but you HAVE to present yourself as being able to?
No one NEEDS to have dozens of $200+ jeans and designer purses, but I figure if you can afford it and it doesn't drive you into debt, why not? Once in awhile isn't a big deal. I do think that if you have to lock yourself in the house so that you don't make these purchases, that's a total lack of self control.
BTW. I noticed it's all the Asians in this thread that seem to be justifying the lavish and overly priced jeans and purses and tvs and stuff and seem to like to advertise what they own, and how much it cost. WHy is that? I'm Asian myself, and are we all just pretentious show offs here, or what?

Alright, now I have to do the first thing and sell off this beautiful phone. This guy is willing to pay $600 cash. Why do I have to be so stubborn?

Are you holding out for $500?

Impulse buying is not something I've ever experienced. I actually have a very hard time spending money. Some people don't think much of it but then there are those who need the security of a big bank account. My folks always told me to save for a rainy day and since you never know when one of those days may come, it prevents me from living in the moment and making those impulse decisions.
Right now I'm contemplating a few things like buying a new camera or trading in my car on a new one, but it's not a necessity so I'm sure I won't do it.

I dont think any of us are actually justifying anything. I think what neeper said can be considered tongue in cheek. We spend because we have the means to, just like you said, nothing wrong with that.
Besides, most of us are just responding to the thread topic, and seems pretty obvious that we're just relaying our experiences in our past spending habits to MissKat.
Also, if you noticed, I actually asked members of this board who among us have spent outrageously, and on what. I think most people are just responding to my question. Nothing to do with being a showoff.

You are right, I dont need a $1200 phone, nor a $450 skirt. I just dont know why its so hard for me to justify it. For instance, like I said I have a person wanting to pay $600 on my phone, and I already have another one that I paid $130 or so for it. So if I downgrade thats almost $500 right there. But why is it so hard for me to do it? when it should be easy. Because im so greedy?

It doesn't sound like greed to me. It sounds like lack of financial control. Figuring out a way to justify spending money like that is a lot easier for some of us than others.

Okay, I take it back. It's not all the Asians in THIS thread that are pretentious show offs, it's Asians in general. I have always thought this, but I guess reading the thread just seemed to reinforce my own thoughts on it that I've gathered through observation.
I'm not sure if it's because our ancestors came from crappy backgrounds and now that some Asians have started to do well, they feel the need to over advertise it or what. I've never fully understood it.
Miss Kat - You are not "greedy" because you like nice stuff. I've never thought of myself as a greedy person because I like unnecessary stuff. Maybe just frivolous. Again, as long as you're not borrowing money for these things, or causing yourself financial hardship, you might as well enjoy it while you can. Once you live out on your own, you'll be forced to reconsider all these luxuries.
