Players actually know where they are headed when they skate backwards. It's not like you turn around and all of a sudden you have no idea where you are.
I think he knew he was going to the net hard and if he accidentally-on-purpose got a piece of the goalie, oh well.

Carrier was penalized appropriately for goaltender interference.
That's a long, long way away from intentionally running the goalie so that the EBUG has to come in.
