I really hope Brouwer has a better season this year, just so I don't have to hear the constant complaining about him. It's not even that I'm a huge Brouwer fan either, I just can't bear to hear the constant whining.

Yeah, the guy is a total loser for not going around punching faces with his broken hand.
Not what I said.

If CP couldn't complain about Brouwer, or speculate on the best way to up Bennett's production, or worry about Johnny leaving town in six years - there would be nothing left to talk about - other than Edmonton being no good - carry on then!

I'm a little miffed as to a)What your point is and B)Why you posted that?
Brouwer broke a finger (not hand as everyone keeps saying) on his LEFT hand. In that fight he threw all his punches with his right. So whatever point your making is lost.

The argument has been that his play and his aggressiveness dropped off because of his injury. If so why is he able to fight afterwards? It looks to me that his drop in play had little to do with his broken finger.

McNabb went after Brouwer and punched him in the face before dropping the gloves, as the video clearly shows. Brouwer defended himself, but threw punches only with his uninjured right hand. It seems fairly obvious to me why a man recovering from a broken finger does not go around starting fistfights, and why he would be less effective than normal with a two-handed implement such as a hockey stick.

Brouwer was a worse signing than Engelland. And that in itself is a feat.
Not much of a feat no since Engelland was a good signing. There are still people that think it was a bad signing? How out of touch with reality were you?

I never understood the talk of Engelland being a bad signing. It's clear that people that said that, even those in the media, had never seen the guy play. He had the reputation as a face puncher who plays defense, usually not a good combo. But what he really is, is a solid stay at home defenseman, who will stand up for his teammates. He is not an "enforcer". Rarely is he out there to start something, though he can do that too.
He was a warrior for the Penguins, a warrior for the Flames and he will continue to be one for the VGK as well. I have all day for guys like Engelland on my team.
I'm also willing to give Brouwer another year because a) no choice b) likely just an off year.

Engelland is and will continue to be one of the worst outshot defencemen in the league.
Brouwer made every single player on the Flames he played with worse by every metric.

There aren't a ton of people who I consider truly knowledgeable about an organization and it's players, FDW is certainly one of them. Out of touch, he is not.
Your opinion on Brouwer is warranted as many share the same sentiment of not only underwhelmed and disappointed, but concerned about his impact on the salary structure.
With that said, I expected a certain type of player out of Brouwer and did not see that out of him last season. But perhaps Brouwer is thinking the same thing and is committed to turning that around. He has never struck as a floater who doesn't care and with the way some of the guys (Johnny) are taking a hands on approach to building team chemistry, you have to think Troy has had some talks with the guys about being better.
Now.. the part about Engelland.. give it up. Engelland was an absolute beast for the Flames during his tenure. He brought stability to pairings with the young guys coming up and we all remember how he was in the 2015 playoffs.
Let's not confuse two totally different situations and said players character.

I hope this is a joke.....Engelland was at a lot of times last year the most stable d man we had. Better than Gio, Hamilton and Brodie on a lot of nights and even when he wasn't he was a sold 4/5 guy and we will miss him.

Why did the Knights take Engelland if he was such an albatross? If what you are saying is correct then surely there was a better option that didn't have negative value.

I think for some people, Engelland's story was written with the first reaction to his contract - for what he had showed to that point, 2.9M a year for 3 years was steep. But the Flames had money to spend in a rebuild and clearly saw something there.
Anyone who watched anything other than point totals would have seen what he brought to the team.

No. You really are out of touch with reality because you are making Engelland appear way worse than he actually was. He became a legit good signing for this team and often was a solid asset here despite the fact that you think otherwise, and he'll probably turn out to be a useful asset for Vegas too.

If Brouwer had played better, there wouldn't be the constant complaining about him. I'm not sure why you'd go into a Brouwer thread, if you're not a huge Brouwer fan, and know that people complain about him. What else did you think would be here?

If all posters actually stopped ignoring the mitigating factors which turned a career +15 goal/ +35 point player into a fixture on the fourth line, then there wouldn't be anyone complaining about Troy Brouwer.
