I agree with this except that Stone will get more than that. Also, I hope the Flames let Chiasson walk. He isn't skilled enough to make plays and he isn't tough enough to intimidate. Hathaway is way more effective.

There's no way you can get Stone for 2.0 million

Agreed, which is why the Flames should tell him to beat it and let another team overpay him. He's nothing more than a third-pairing defenceman and should be paid accordingly.

Flames have a lot of contracts going out, I can see them keeping Wotherspoon. As it stands, he's 8th or 9th on the depth chart and there's always injuries. Probably wouldn't be due for any kind of raise

In terms of UFAs, I'd try to bring back both Versteeg and Stone if the value is there. Not sure that's the case especially with Stone though.

As for RFAs, the no-brainers are Bennett, Lazar, Ferland, Kulak, Rittich and Gillies. I'd also bring back Chiasson and Hathaway. "No" to the rest ... too bad about Culkin, I had really high hopes for him. But if you can't stay healthy, all the potential counts for nothing ...

I have a feeling Versteeg will be looking for at least $3M. He made $4M before and had a similar season. Now, he may find that a lot of GMs think his big deal was a bad mistake, but Versteeg may also feel like he has some making up to do after going with a PTO "show me" contract.

Stone will, IMO, give a discount. We'll see how big it is.

I still don't get why Versteeg didn't get signed earlier last summer and then had to take that late Flames offer. His numbers were pretty much the same as this past season and we all were happy with that, so it's not like he had a down year or anything. Just weird.

We'll see about Stone. I could easily see him get 4m on the open market, so it'd probably have to be a pretty big discount for the Flames.

He was coming off an injury. Couldn't even get insurance for himself in Europe because of the injury

I'm absolutely floored by how many people want Wotherspoon back. He's 24 and has had multiple chances to steal a spot on the team and hasn't. He has absolutely no trade value, the only thing he'd fetch is another teams similar AHL junk. It's time to cut our losses and admit that he didn't turn out as we'd like.

While I like Hathaway on the 4th line or as a rotational 13h forward, he is still looking for his first second ( ) NHL goal. Chiasson, despite his faults, scored a dozen for under a million cap hit. That's fantastic 4th line production. As long as he's not miscast as a pseudo 1st liner he absolutely needs to be qualified.

Ripping on Chiasson for not being able to magically become a top line winger is baffling to me. Too many people are looking to throw the baby out with the bath water with this guy.

Did Hathaway not score his first goal against the Red Wings last year? Or am I imagining things?

Yeah he did. I just placed and edited it for the Ferly assist. Hathaway had a beautiful baseball bat swing at the puck into the net.

He can play on the bottom pairing in a pinch and was one of the Heat's best defenseman this year. Played huge minutes and had lots of praise from the coaching staff down there.

Depth is a good thing and besides you still need players to play down on the farm. Wotherspoon is a good veteran presence down there.

I wouldn't mind parting ways with him, but he provides solid AHL depth and gives the young guys some shelter. I look at Wotherspoon almost like an AHL vet now. I doubt he would an AHL-contract, but I would love to sign him to one.

I do think the Flames part ways with him this off-season, however.

Is there a place where we are discussing which RFA's receive or don't receive qualifying offers? I believe the deadline was 5PM ET today.
