I think both Poirier and Shinkaruk, and probably Jankowski should be added to this list of pairs in the top 9. There is still reason to think that one of them could end up being a really solid second line winger:

Gaudreau • Monahan
Bennett • 2016 pick / Shinkaruk / Poirier / Jankowski
Backlund • Frolik

Love it. Get good depth guys rotating through to find chemistry and bob's your uncle. Also our D seems pretty set.

The Flames still need two big, solid defenseman to play in the top five. I like the idea that Jokipakka could be that guy, but he has not yet shown enough to think this is so.

I really was hoping the Flames were going to nab Hamonic, and they still might seeing as we are right in the wheelhouse of where he wants to be, but with the expansion draft BS there really is no point because unless we over expose the forwards we won't be able to protect 4 defensemen like Gio/Brodie/Hamilton/Hamonic. Leave one of those guys unprotected and they are gone for sure.

Although, my hope is they offload Wideman and then I'm OK going into next season with our big 3, plus Jokipakka and Engelland taking turns in the top 4, with Nakladal and Wotherspoon as the 6/7's. Smid? Well who the heck knows I guess.

Giordano - Brodie
Jokipakka - Hamilton
Nakladal - Engelland
Wotherspoon

or

Brodie - Hamilton
Giordano - Engelland
Jokipakka - Nakladal
Wotherpsoon

Jokipakka is definitely at the very least trending in the right direction. And has certainly held is own in that regard so far in his short time with the Flames. I have high expectations for this guy next year. More time in the system and getting more comfortable will only help. And he's only 24 so there's plenty of room for improvement.
