You can hum and haw about it all you want. Everything you're taking issue with is no less "out there" than your assertion he's going to sign a 3 year deal. You're looking at this issue with your head in the clouds as well. It doesn't really matter what you'd think is fair. He's likely going to be a top 10-15 NHL defending when he's considering an extension, and he'll be paid like it at a reasonable term.
