At KH and Revy, I think the long green runs are both cat tracks that wind across the mountain. They are essentially huge switchbacks that cut back and forth across the main fall line of the hill. So they aren`t so flat that you can`t ski down them, they just aren`t very exciting.

At Sunshine, if you are looking at the ski out run that goes from the Village down to the base of Goat`s Eye, then yes it is very flat in places, flat enough that a lot of people end up hiking or poling.

Has anyone been out to Nakiska yet?
National Ski Day has $10 tickets!
But if it's complete garbage, not even worth it.

Heading up on Saturday for the $10 lift tickets. Hopefully it doesn't get too sticky with the warm weather coming!

Has anyone been to Fernie yet? Planning to head there next weekend, how will the snow be at this time of year?

I'm thinking it's too early for Fernie. They are prone to rain early and late in the season.

We live not too far from Fernie (hour). Don't do it. It's been too warm here lately and with Castle pushing back their start date to next week already, Fernie is just a shell. Was there last weekend and it was rough. Great to get out, but will only be worse than it was. You are best holding off for either a big dump or else not until January at the earliest (just my $0.02)

How weree the conditions this Saturday at Nakiska? Is it worth going on Sunday or is it a slushy mess?

Nakiska was really good today, most of the opened hill has a couple inches of good snow but you'll often find a sheet of ice underneath.

E: there were hardly any lift lines today

I was at Louise last weekend and it was pretty decent, they had a good base in most places on the backside.

Arrived at Fernie on Friday night we already knew we would not be boarding but went for a relaxing weekend. You could see the patches of grass in the dark. It also rained Friday and most of Saturday. You could count about 20 people on the hill from our hot tub vantage point at LCR. Definately would not be worth spending any money to ski there right now.

Re Lake Louise, On Saturday, I would say it had ok conditions for this time of the year. Best run was Whitehorn One which had the usual corn powder. Most of the rocks were still exposed but still a very nice run to pick your way through. The Whitehorn chutes were not yet open. Larch had very limited skiing, mostly artificial snow and they had not opened most of the front runs that were use for the race.

The Paradise area was mostly opened but the snow was on the firm side.

As we were staying at the Chateau, on the Sunday we decided to cross country across the Lake which turned out to be an amazing experience. I had seen pictures that made it look like the Chateau Lake Louise was at the base of the Lake Louise Ski Resort and always thought they were Photoshopped. I guess its a Captain Obvious moment but it turns out that is in fact the view from the other side of the lake when its clear in the winter!

so does anyone having any tips on how i can get my 9 yr old duaghter to overcome some of her fears and learn how to ski? she can handle the begginer area at nakiska.

i had been enrolling her in lessons at nakiska; however, she tells me that she feels left out when the rest of us go away while she is in the lesson.

i bought her one of those kids ski harneness - however, she is now worried that others will be laughing at her because she can't ski......

One thing that works for my son (he's 8), is to be with his friends who are a similar age. Some of them are already pretty advanced, and seeing them ski gives him a bit of confidence that he can do some of the harder stuff.

I don't know if that will work for you, but if you can get together a group of her friends you can see what happens. It might make it more fun and reduce some anxiety.

Last weekend my son was a bit slow getting reading for the chairlift and ended up missing the one that I was on, and he had to be by himself for the first time. He managed really well and that was a huge confidence boost for him and he was really proud of himself. I guess that's the other thing - let her know how well she's doing and how she's maybe (even if its a lie) much better than you were at her age. My son seems to get a kick out of that.
