Dear god. What a putrid roster. Not a single star player on the team.
Team USA is possibly the worst I have seen as well thus far.
Wonder whats up this year. Nobody wants to go to Belarus?

Yea, not really sure either. Could just be a bad run of minor injuries/upcoming UFA's. The Olympics could be playing a factor also.

I bet they could get more players going if the thing was so damn long. Do they really need to have teams like France and Italy in this getting pounded by every body with a shot at medalling.

What? Backlund doesn't have a lifetime suspension. Are you referringto Backstrom?

Did Giordano officially decline to play? I didn't see any communications about it.

Yes
http://www.torontosun.com/2014/04/14...-out-on-worlds
It’s no surprise the Flames’ top tandem of TJ Brodie and Mark Giordano were offered spots on Canada’s blueline for the upcoming world championship, but both will miss out due to injuries.
The 30-year-old Giordano is being bothered by a sore hand, while Brodie missed Sunday’s regular-season finale in Vancouver with an undisclosed issue.
“Our docs told me it’s better to rest,” Giordano said. “It’s always great when you get asked for national team stuff, but you have to make sure that you’re ready for September, as well.”

Countries like that need opportunity to develop, and that's only going to happen if they play with the big boys once in a while instead of only in the B-Group. Latvia and Norway for example used to be in the b-group all the time and now they've developed and can compete with the likes of Germany at least. It's also the reason the WHC takes place every year as it finances the lower level tournaments.
Olympic years always suck (though the 2010 tournament was awesome ) in terms of rosters. Sweden is getting declines left and right.
For Germany Ehrhoff is out unfourtunately. Big blow to lose the MVP but I hope we can avoid relegation.

Tim Thomas to play for the US:
Kevin Allen@ByKevinAllen53m
Tim Thomas will be USA's goalie for the World Championships. He agreed to play today. USA's squad has potential.

There are a lot of good players Team Canada could now ask from the Sharks, Blues, Avalanche, Flyers and so on. Was there a deadline to submit the original first roster? Tournament is still over a week away. I think there are still four more spots open on the 25 member team.
