Still think Granlund should be with Backlund or Monahan. He's a triggerman, not a grinder. But whatever, at least both kids are playing. More than I could've expected from them.

Meanwhile, the Sabres appear to be going full Oiler (trying to sell Miller, Ott and Moulson).
You never go full Oiler.

to those worried about him playing on the 4th line...
He is not here to make the team (though if he wows everyone, he'll get moved up), he is here as a reward, and to get a taste of the NHL and what is required to play here. So that when he is ready to try and crack the lineup, he'll be more prepared.
Playing him on the 4th line is to shelter him.

Hartley shuffles lines like a dealer shuffles cards. If Granlund plays well on the fourth, he'll get a chance on the third.

Yep, exactly.
Also, if he is holding his head above water or going beyond that, I would bet Hartley moves him up a line for a shift or two on top of it, just to test the kid out.
Nothing wrong with starting a kid in his first NHL game on the 4th line (with another skilled player to boot!), and see how he does. If it was a long-term move where Granlund is on the Flames, but playing day in and day out on the 4th line, then there is a problem. For a cup of coffee? Good place to start and allows him to get his ears wet first.

And thank goodness.
I couldn't think of a better way to kill a rookie's confidence than bringing them up to the NHL mid-season and throwing them to the wolves.
There is a pretty big talent gap between the AHL and NHL. You need to ease them in a little bit.

Better to get something for them now than lose them for nothing on July 1st.
And if there's any season to go full Oiler for, it's next year.

Phaneuf was given a pretty long leash in his first year and thrived...
Brodie since stepping in mid season 3 years ago he has been giving a lot of playing time with top guys -- bouwmeester/wideman/gio etc. And seems to be better for it.
I know our prospect situation is pretty dire but to compare Monahan stepping in as a 6th overall and the most nhl ready player, according to some, from last years draft to Granlund who is a 2nd round pick and a player showing good strides but still not in the same realm as Monahan, it seems kinda skewed. I think having Granlund step in and play with a guy like Byron who knows both systems pretty well and had a very good 10 game stretch this year when coming up, he will be able to relate and calm Granlund down. I wouldn't be surprised to see that line put up 3 or 4 points tomorrow.
SO STOKED I'M GOING!!

I'm glad Shaw is offering a free preview of Centre ice so I can actually catch this in decent quality. Pulling hard for Grandlund and Ortio.

Not sure where centre ice starts on the Shaw channels. Probably 350+ but I'm not sure. Just saw a tweet about and I'm not home for awhile to check.
Preview is from the 26th to Mar 4th.

they are pending UFAs that likely do not want to return, so of course they are shopping them.

Looks like #Flames callup Markus Granlund will work the left wing tonight with Sean Monahan and Joe Colborne. Three youngsters. I like.

Best news in a long time! I was fortunate enough to see Granlund play his first game up close and he made a number of smart defensive plays along with a few good puck decisions in the neutral zone that led to shots. I can't wait to see him play with Monahan and Colborne, he has a deceptive shot if he can get loose.
