Yeah, being good at an event tends to generate interest. It doesn't hurt that we've had the Quebec Air Force leading the charge for several years now.
I still can't get into short-track. I can't wrap my head around it's possible to do anything unless you're in the lead.
Good start for Canada!

Short track is like mario kart on skates, and thats why I like it! The only thing that would make it better is if the racers were allowed to drop banana peels.

But that just seems ridiculous to me. If you fall from the jump it should be like submitting a program that doesn't have it. I have a hard time believing that the spins and whatnots can make up for that.
The slopestyle judging might be a bit iffy, but at least there if you make an obvious, big mistake, it's clearly reflected in your score.

It didn't look like she fell to me — she lost her balance for a moment, but regained it. She was charging much harder than any of the others, and did more difficult tricks. I was a bit surprised at the result, but I thought it was fair.

Scoring Winger

Just watched the Ladies Short Figure Skating and none of them were in that Russian girl's league. She got a great and well deserved score, but I don't see how the Italian lady was so close behind. And I wonder if the judges just tune out the musical selections.

Well, by my completely uneducated eye the Japanese girl got jobbed in moguls too, as the American looked really bad in her bronze medal winning run. I don't understand judging in pretty much any judged sport.

So, I know that we're the reigning Olympic champions and all, and I really like Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue, but Ice Dance sucks.

Midnight MT Men's Downhill starts, I'll be staying up to watch that for sure. Always one of my favourite events. Women's slopestyle semifinal as well starts at 11:30PM

Nice, is that on the main network? I like Alpine.
edit: yeah, Alpine on CBC, Slopestyle on TSN, Women's hockey on SN.

Eric Guay is our best shot, he has 21 career podium finishes, got third in the world cup downhill back in December.
Other skiers are Osborne-Paradis, who has had some good finishes before, and Ben Thomson (Panorama skier) who got a silver medal on this course before. Finally, Calgary boy Jan Hudec is still just recovering from ongoing back issues so probably won't be in contention but fun to cheer on anyways.

But she did more than one jump. She fell on her triple axel and received deductions for it - it is scored exactly like she did a program without it... But her other jumps and combinations were THAT much better than everyone else's. It's not just the spins and twirls.
The difference with slope style is that there is significantly less elements so one fall makes a much bigger difference. The skaters have four or five jumps and combinations in addition to the spins, etc.
Plus, there are points for style etc. Figure skating isn't just about landing jumps. The score isn't based only on jumps.

Well that's garbage, just put a halt to the biathlon coverage once the Canadians are finished, I wanted to see the end of the race. Too much to ask?

Huh, apparently Tara Watchorn is on the women's team, and scored a goal today. I went to elementary school with her back in the day. She seemed to win every single athletic award at the school, over most guys even.

It was a tape. The standings didn't change after the Canadian finished

Still it's not like they have anything else they need to show right now, other than more puff pieces. Might as well show the finish of the race where the winner tied the highest all-time medal total.

CTV is horrible for cutting stuff off - CBC seems to do better. I remember reading CTV's FB page with the last Olympics and people were pissed as hell. There were people talking about cutting away from the Canadian contingent during the march of nations, cutting off the end of races and matches - all kinds of things. People were not shy about it, in the slightest. And, there was a lot of complaining about Brian Williams, some of it warranted, some of it not.

But that guy finished already. All the guys after the Canadian finished 50th.
