No not really. He was fine last year which is why he stayed up in the NHL after coming up. It was this season where he fell off a bit which is why I think he's in the AHL. I've defended Baertschi a lot this year but I just think he's lost some of his swagger for whatever reason.

I forgot to mention Backlund (seems like that's a common theme)

He started the Flames off well tonight. Had chances and sparked the offense. I don't know what Burke is talking about, he's skates well and keeps pressure on the opposition.

Galiardi had some good chances tonight as well. There was one goalmouth scramble where the Sharks should have taken a penalty for crosschecking him, imo.

We're looking progressively better in the dot.
Thornton went 47%. He was noticeable on maybe 2 shifts.

I noticed that Monahan couldn't manage an assist, even though the flames scored 4 goals. I also notice that, while Gio has an 8game point streak, he has scored exactly 1 point in each, no more, no less. Most guys on a point streak average ABOVE point/game. Also why is everybody pumped about a 4game win steak? Edmonton will have the same after their next game. The Canucks can do it anytime they want.

I'm taking some family from Norway to the game on Saturday to see their first-ever NHL action live. Let's make it 5, boys!

Publicly ridiculing these players only decreases their value to the organization as tradable assets.

If I'm another GM and he comes to me wanting a player with size I know that he places little to no value on granlund, baertschi, and gaudreau. Burke is so public about his dislike for these players that my starting price would be all 3 of them cause I know he undervalues them. And, at this point, I would not be surprised to see him make that trade for a player who has less offensive upside but is over 6'2". And we flames fans would be very upset.

I want this team to get more size as well but I don't want to see smaller young prospects driven out of the organization before they have been given a chance to mature.

At this point, Burke's criticism of nearly every player in the organization feels more like trying to rip into his predecessors (Feaster and D. sutter). As if he wants everyone to know that any time this team loses a game, it's because of them and not him. I'm not saying it's wrong to criticize players... I'm just saying that being so publicly negative of every part of this team is counter-productive to making it better.

If that's the case, then I think Burke needs a better understanding of this market (and an occasional visit to CP). As it stands, fans understand where we are. The arena is selling out. Most importantly, we want to be the Hawks or Penguins, not the oilers or Canucks.

Mentorship and leadership. Winning to the best of your ability with what you have. Good coaching.

Our fans will be here. I hope Burke realizes it.

But don't sell him short (npi). He has drafted and acquired small players, and flourished with them.

From what I have seen, Burke wants BIG TEAMS, even if there are small players on them.

He doesn't want SMALL teams with the odd Bertuzzi floating about. I think he saw what results that brings.

^ Gotta think about that angle too.

This is trade season. Even if you didn't like that draft and other players in the farm, why publicly say so? If you're smart you'd lie through your teeth right now and instead pump up the tires on your kids and your assets, if not for them then for when you're trying to make a swap and want to extract maximum value for your prospects.

Pretty stupid IMO. Also, fully disagree with him. It was an undersized draft class on the whole, but still a very, very strong one. Every one of those players has a good chance to play in this league.

Burke was also on record to admitting that he didn't think that talks to university students were published.

He cut up a signing made by a certain Columbus GM, while he was still on the job, in front of a Toronto university audience.

Seriously, what do you expect? Butler is about as good—AND BAD—as any other bottom-pairing NHL defenseman were they forced into the same situation on one of the worst teams in the league.
