Craig Button claiming it would be a disaster for Avs to pick Nate MacKinnon

Lots of milling around on draft floor. #Flames, though, are huddled around their table, which is right at the front.

They do need D more than forwards but I can't see how picking MacKinnon is a disaster no matter what your teams needs are. He comes in and makes you better no matter what.

LOL. I could understand not liking the pick, but to label it a "disaster"?

Being from Medicine Hat I've been able to see Shinkaruk play a lot. I really hope the Flames do not take him. The kid does have some seriously good hands and a super quick release but he tends to shy away from the dirty areas and cheats on back checking to cherry pick a long outlet pass (though that may be a drawn up play).

With the earlier picks Flames should be looking for size and grit along with skill. If they are looking for a smaller forward with speed skill and rediculously good hands they could pick up Curtis Valk (Tigers) who is in his second draft year and could be had in the 3rd round. He out scored Shinkaruk this year.

Just my opinion from watching Tiger players first hand.

Ya, other guys trying to explain to him that Stasny etc could be traded for D men but he just raises his voice and pounds the table. Strikes me as a tool.

It's certainly not a team building move, they would be better off trading the pick to florida for #2 and #32. Take Jones and a potental really good player at 32.

I agree with button, keep all three. And I say try and trade a roster player to columbus for one of their picks and get yourself another first rounder.

LOL eat it overreactors. Feaster just said the right way to build this team is through the draft. He also said it's the most important draft in Flames history.

After seeing Jones less than stellar conditioning (man boobs and spare tire) at the combine I see potential in him to be the Erik Johnson overhyped defenseman. There's no doubt he's a talent but MacKinnon reminds me of Crosby how he's taken to his body and seems very driven. IMO it would be a disaster for any team to pass up MacKinnin in this draft.
