I'd say the memories are for you more than him. You get to dress him up in a miniature cowboy outfit that your wife will take pictures of to embarrass him with in front of his girlfriends in about 15 years.

Interesting article from Jen Gerson. Read it all the way through. The conclusion sums up I think how most people feel about the stampede.

Stampede is Calgary; brash, ostentatious and as indifferent to your criticisms as it is to your origins. The whole festival is so contrived that it creates something real; community. Anyone can step off the plane, wear a hat, pick up a pair of boots and purchase a set of fake cow horns that attach to the hood of the family SUV by magnets. Bang. You’re a Calgarian. It’s a ritual that seems all the more relevant in an ever-growing boom-town where almost everyone is from somewhere else — political correctness be damned.

What is the average cost in coupons for each ride?

If I have the safeway 55 coupon deal how many rides will that translate into?

I'm guessing somewhere between 5-10 coupons per ride depending on the awesomeness. Sound about right?

Oh, I love it! I'm getting excited now.

We Calgarians work hard. But we play hard too. To answer the articles question, it will only end when one of those stop.

Sure animal rights may slow this ( and I say this as a tree hugger, it really isn't as bad as the optics) but we ain't doing PC for anyone. And Van Peta got exposed last year anyway.) It's slowly becoming a festival like Oktoberfest or Carnival. We get over a million visitors this month. It's real.

It's a celebration of perhaps everything that is wrong. Booze, sex, money, fat. (Drugs?)

But here's the qualifier. Calgarians work harder than anyone in the country. Perhaps harder that anyone in the Western world.

Work hard, play hard.

I love it!

The people in Fort Mac work harder than anyone in this city. So no, the people in this city are not the hardest working people in their own province, let alone the country. I'd also recommened to anyone who loves excess to spend a summer in Montreal. From F1 weekend to Labour Day its a non-stop party.

But those in Fort Mac also do a significant more amount of drugs than us.

In fact that would be the outlier. The do work hard, and party hard. But to a point of non-sustainability. They will never be a functioning city that is noticed by the world.

I was talking international cities. They might even kill themselves.

Besides that, I love Montreal, and I will not argue.

I drove down 9th ave today (parade route) and saw all the bleachers up for parade day.

First thing that came to mind is the ghetto seating we have down there. We should change that up STAT. Something like this would be ideal.

No more marching bands and shriner cars. I want G-strings and fireworks.

Lol at the drugs comment. It is true though. But I suppose what the hell else are you going to do in Fort Mac besides drink and do drugs excessively? In that regard, I can't wait for Fort Mac to get in on the bath salts fun.

Oh, I know it's true. It's an awesome poker run, if you have two bigger guys. Or a gun. It's different up there. To compare it to Calgary, or Stampede, or even work ethic, is not fair and probably untrue.

Statisically proven things that rise after Stampede:

Divorce rates
STD rates
Pregnancy rates
Debt

And of course they all tie together neatly. Good old Stampede.

I worked there for 2 years and it was easily the most boring time of my life. So glad I got out of that hell hole.

To refine, all of these can be managed or eliminated by the morality of the character in question. The fact that they are not does not bother me and in fact kinda makes me feel like we have a real party going on.

I never broke up or went into debt cause of Stampede... I may have had sex with those that did though...

Yeah, I heard about that but I've never actually seen the pic - I trust it's not a Stampede urban myth?

Cowboy's tent and the new club in the casino will be a gong show.
