Why is Conroy flying to Philadelphia to collect them? They're not children. I always thought Conroy was a nice guy, I'm saddened to hear that he cares so little about carbon emissions and the environment.
I'm glad we got rid of Kuzmenko. Anyone who refuses to wear a pride jersey can take a hike. We never should have brought him in.
Lol I get and recognize both issues that you bring up from a wider lens, but dear lord this post comes off cartoonish/caricature-y.
Woke nitpickers are so weird. Once you commit that one incident of violating one of their mile long list of societal rules/expectations, you're suddenly no longer 'a nice guy'. Yeah.. it extends to your personality too.
We don't need to consider any extraneous variables or nuances in the issue. Fundamental attribution error? Nonsense! Us righteous ones know exactly their thinking and intent were, and it was the worst you can imagine. Pure evil.
(Just don't comb through the history of the wokesters shaming these violations, might find a few similar warts there, i.e. flying to vacation destinations on more than a few occasions....)

Similar production to a lot of guys with similar stats. A really good comparison is DeBrusk, who has a career high of 50 pts (like Farabee), but has otherwise been a 40 pt guy. He makes $5.5M
DeBrusk is getting more opportunity offensively, this year, and as a result, is responding.
I expect a very similar story with Farabee.

Flyers’ fans do not seem to be sorry about this trade and generally support it, especially losing Farabee, whom they don’t like. Hopefully, Frost will fill the spot AND want to stay in Calgary.
This quote represents the overall mood there:
Just because it’s a good deal for the Flyers doesn’t mean it’s a bad deal for the Flames.
I’ve never bought into the notion that one side or another ‘wins’ a trade. The Flyers get cap flexibility and some futures for moving out a couple guys who weren’t part of their long-term plans. The Flames get a couple young middle-six forwards who can help with scoring. Nobody has to lose for it to be a good trade.

Whether or not Kuzmenko finds some of his NHL rookie season stats again doesn't really matter anymore. The plan was to always try and get something for him this season (it would have been nice for him to be on 30-goal, 70 point pace to be selling at, but he didn't have anything this season and wasn't worth re-signing. Pelletier had great energy, but was still on waivers not long ago, and a useful spot in the lineup was only going to be tougher to get going forward. One guy who wasn't performing and will be gone at the end of the year
Frost shores up the centre position. No more trying to hope that Sharangovich or Zary can succeed there, the team has three strong Top 9 centres. Kadri-Backlund-Frost, Frost-Kadri-Backlund, Backlund-Frost-Kadri, whatever. It's better. Zary and Sharangovich can continue to fill in at centre in a pinch, but can play where they have the most success. Farabee fits into the Top 6 more than Pelletier or Pospisil ever could, having similar production to Coleman during his career. It's an immediate upgrade on the wing.

Sunk cost, no additional flights were scheduled due to Conroy. Also, weird take.
I doubt Frost has top-line potential at this point, but that doesn't mean the only other option is 'meh'. It is tough to win without a 2nd line center - just ask Colorado. You need depth down the middle.
Regardless of how you view Frost, his upside is anywhere between a passable 1st line center to an average 2nd line center. Let's see how he pops (or not - maybe things don't click). My bet is that - for the most part - we will be happy that he is on the team.
The Flames have nothing in the pipeline at center other than Zary. Unless they were going to draft in the top 5 or 10, they wouldn't be able to replace Kadri and/or Backlund in the lineup with what they had organizationally for years. it was either trade for one, or hope to sign one as a UFA (which in a market like Calgary, is easier said than done). Conroy HAD to get a center at some point sooner rather than later.
Kadri is 34, and Backlund is 35. Next year Kadri is 35, and Backlund 36. At some point very soon, Calgary will need to replace Backlund and Kadri, and drafting one this draft and that prospect taking 3+ years to develop won't be of much help.
I have no idea how Frost will fit in. He has been in the NHL. This is his 6th pro season, and he has a career high of 46pts. Does this mean that there is no more room to grow? I doubt that. How much is the question, but there is certainly a very good chance that he improves on his numbers here. The Flyers have been dysfunctional.
Even if he ends up topping out as a ~50pt center, that's ok too. Huska will have him playing reliable defence while doing it. He can be a long-term solution here, and who knows how good his production will be? We have yet to see him in a single game here. By the end of this season, we will be better able to judge the fit and be able to project him a bit more. He isn't some 20 year old 1st year player, but he is hardly a seasoned vet at the very heights of his production either.
As for any hand-wringing about rebuilding and acquiring top-end players through the top of the draft - who knows what next year brings? Maybe the Flames end up taking a big step back next season with age, injuries, poor luck, or whatever. Worst case is that, if needed, they could probably sell Frost (or Farabee) for more than they picked them up for at next year's trade deadline.
I love Pelletier, and one would think that Kuzmenko had very little value. It is arguable who had more value - Pelletier, or the 2nd. Although Pelletier was really starting to pop here and really starting to fit-in, and even though I am positive there is no way that he would have passed through waivers again, I am not sure that the Flames could have traded him for a 2nd. So Frost + Farabee in my opinion cost at best two second round picks and a 7th.
I bet on a team with stronger leadership, more stable coaching (I don't like Torts and don't think he is a good coach at all), and maybe more opportunity here in Calgary, I would bet that IF this team does end up having to do a u-turn and go full rebuild, they could probably sell these players for much more than they paid for them.
I am just excited to see the new lines and what Huska does with them. They will find some footing on here eventually. It was sad to see a good story in Pelletier go, but there are plenty of good stories to follow here this year. The emergence of Coronato. The re-invention of Huberdeau away from a high-end but easy player to play against into a difficult to play against goal score. The ageless Backlund and Kadri. The Andersson stare down and chirps. The potential (way too early, but interesting) popping of Klapka. Flames finally 'releasing the hounds' or, more correctly, the Wolf. How this team overall is proving the doubters (including myself) wrong.
Now we get to see how Frost and Farabee fit-in, and how a good coach like Huska will find a way to get the most out of them. Meanwhile, Torts is ruining yet another team, but hopefully Pelletier can push through as I don't imagine Torts is going to be there too much longer.

Yeah, I prefer this kind of grit over the whole “Lucic is on patrol” era. They don’t need some goon taking up space, guys stick up for themselves and aren’t afraid to ride the line. Kadri getting hit by Trouba and going after him himself was the perfect example. Pospisil, Lomberg, Weegar, Coleman, Andersson, Pachal and now Farabee. Building a nice collection of guys who don’t take crap.
Farabee is a really interesting player too. Looks to have great hand eye and hands in tight while going hard to the net, but also a good shot from distance.
The Coleman comparisons seem spot-on.

Frank speculated that Briere may have seen something in Pelletier who just needs an opportunity similar to himself as another smaller player.
In that vein I hope Frost will pop in the same way Conroy did when he came to the Flames from the Blues. Good defensive third line center who blossoms offensively with better opportunities. First thing I thought of when I heard Frank’s podcast.

Pretty sure Conroy had to take a private flight to pick up the players because he was worried that he might have been mis-gendered by the stewardhumans on a commercial flight. So the extra emissions were justified.
As for the trade, excellent. I think we will be pleasantly surprised by how well they are going to play now that they are away from Torts.
Speaking of Torts, he's so stubborn and willing to cut off his nose to spite his face that i bet Kuzmenko and Michkov never see a minute of ice time together.
