Dancevic is in a 3rd set now (tied 2-2) as they play deep into the night in NYC.

Man crappy draw for Vasek... any dream of a US Open run is pretty much done. That choke job in Cincinnati would have ranked him 38th and the final seeded player is 35th so at least that didn't cost him. Hopefully he can at least beat the qualifier and pick up another 35 points.

So no Canadian men's qualis? would like to have seen the youngsters Schnur and Peliwo get a chance to play.

wow. Frank saved 2 match points on his serve to get to a tiebreaker.

THEN he comes back to win by winning last 6 points of TB after being down 1-4. Must tell myself never to scoreboard watch when Frank is playing ... not good for the heart.

Dancevic plays Ito tomorrow. A grinder but one Frank should blow off the court if he plays his game.

Looking at the main draw, there are a lot of winnable 1st round matches for qualifiers, including the one against Vasek.

#69 Igor Sijsling (NED) vs Qualifier
Qualifier vs #45 Martin Klizan (SVK)
#84 Lukas Lacko (SVK) vs Qualifier
#97 James Blake (USA) vs Qualifier
#50 Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) vs Qualifier
Qualifier vs Qualifier
#23 Feliciano Lopez (ESP) vs Qualifier
Qualifier vs #10 Milos Raonic (CAN)
#14 Jerzy Janowicz (POL) vs Qualifier
#87 Jack Sock (USA) vs Qualifier
Qualifier vs Qualifier
Qualifier vs #4 David Ferrer (ESP)
#62 Robin Haase (NED) vs Qualifier
#11 Kei Nishikori (JPN) vs Qualifier
Qualifier vs #39 Vasek Pospisil (CAN)

I always hate replying twice in a row because I look like a big geek...but...we've got another woman in the main draw!

Tennis Canada ‏@Tennis_Canada 21m .@sharon_fichman qualifies for her first Grand Slam main draw after defeating Panova 7-6, 6-4 joining Bouchard & Wozniak! #usopen #CdnTennis

Great victory. It was a nail biter.

if you're posting at all in this thread (never mind twice in a row), I'm afraid it's a little too late to avoid looking like a geek...

I dunno if you're on your way to NYC already, but here's Jon Wertheim's ever reliable US Open tips:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/ten.../?sct=tn_wr_a1

you'll have to report back on those food tips in particular, cause I found the choices pretty weak when I was there 7 years ago. but that's probably just inexperience and laziness.

I think I've replied 8 or 9 times in a row, don't worry! I'm the geekiest!

Dancevic into yet another 3rd set right now!

Dancevic has drawn Hasse. I'm pleased, could have been better but it could have been worse, it's definitely winnable.Milos gets Fabbiano and Vasek gets Dutra Silva, 2 of the easiest qualifier opponents

The food sucked at the US Open when I went. The grounds overall are a lot more exciting than the french, don't have any other event to compare it to but at the US Open there is actually stuff to do when there is no matches going on. I wasn't 21 when I went but the bars looked pretty fun.

I wonder if they still sell Coney Island hot dogs at Flushing Meadow?

Mango, will you let me know?

James Blake has announced his retirement.

US Open Tennis @usopen
"Despite the tears, I'm really happy about this, to do it on my own terms." - James Blake on his retirement from tennis following #usopen

I don't think I'll ever forget his night match in the quarterfinals versus Andre Agassi in 2005. For a moment there, I thought Blake would take it:

His autobiography is a good read if you ever have the chance. It's right up there with Agassi and Seles' books. To see how he fought back from injuring his back and battling shingles is pretty inspiring.

Blake was one of the good guys.
His match tomorow against Karlovic will be special.
