Backlund got 14 minutes for stepping on a stick. That has to be some kind of record.

Really solid game by the Flames, bottom 6 are starting to look, really, really good. If we can play like that consistently I think we have a decent shot to go pretty deep in the playoffs.

Positive Takeaways:
- Lindholm is a stud and seems to make any line he plays on better.
- Backlund games seems to be coming back into form
- our bottom six seem to dominate the other teams bottom six most of the time
- still really impressed how well our young dmen play and move the puck.

Neutral Takeaways:
- Smith seems to be back to his old form when he is making the initial save on a shot but if the play gets scrambly it looks like he is having trouble tracking the puck and can get out of position. Hopefully, that will improve with more starts

Negative Takeaways:
- Top line needs to get a lot better defensively
- Brodie still seems to have mental lapses every so often

All in all a great game, makes me wonder if we need to do anything major at the trade deadline.

EDIT: oh and holy #### the refs were brutal again.

What an outstanding effort by the team. Full marks by the team for playing quite possibly the most complete game of the season. Thought every line was good tonight and the puck moving ability of the defense and Smith made all the difference getting through the middle of the ice.

There’s one guy definitely not missing James Neal right now and that’s Austin Czarnik. 3 goals in 3 straight games. Had that really nice rush in the 1st too. The line looks a lot faster and plays with more pace. Good for him. Team player making the most of his opportunity.

Just another example of how Peters knows his team so well. In the pre-game media scrum he said the guys had a phenomenal practice, were flying out there and they would play a good game tonight. I hate to keep bringing up Gulutzan, but what a treat Peters is after struggling through 2 years of GG.

He let in 2 on the first 12 shots.

Would have leaked that Flames were signing at every nice hotel here.

They've already been whinging about that for a week. Also about how the teams are expected to 'take it easy' against Calgary, and 'save everything to trounce Edmonton for the guaranteed points'. It's been pretty amusing.

I feel like for most smaller players (with the exception of crazy talents like Gaudreau and Point) filling out in the mid 20's allows them to play in the NHL a lot more effectively. Its pretty hard for some of these guys that are 160lbs soaking wet to be able to play against 200 lbs plus defenceman. Putting on a extra 10 to 15 lbs of muscle thru the mid 20's allow to at least have a little more strength.

To be fair, it wasn't Gullickson, it was the team that wasn't ready to play most nights.

Good friggin riddance. I so hope the Coil promote him to bench boss.

Only caught the third but that was some of the best hockey I’ve seen from the Flames in weeks. I loved the aggressive forecheck, and it was nice to see some timely big saves from Smith.
