The Flames were missing 3 D that started the season. Depth.
Bill Peters made sure he mentioned Eatbread's first point. Very Suttersque. This team is great. FUGG...wasted 2 years with that arrogant dud.

I still remember when Giordano started playing regularly back in 2006 with Regehr and Phaneuf... Since then hes always had the work ethic down. I am so happy for him. Leading by example as the captain.

Every single player looked good tonight.

I really liked Kylington. Playing with Prout is visibly difficult at times, but Kylington’s skating ability helps so much. Kylington wasn’t perfect, but he played a damn good game.

Thumbs up to Bennett, Neal, Mangiapane, Jankowski, Ryan, Hathaway - very solid game from the bottom 6. That Bennett - Jankowski - Neal line is building itself up. Awesome stuff.

This past December, my father, sister and I all had milestone birthdays. Dad turned 60, little sister 25, and I hit the big 3-0.

Our birth years are 1958, 1988 and 1993 respectively, so my dad got three custom Flames sweaters to mark the occasion. For himself, a white 58. My sister got a retro 93, and I a home 88. I bring this up because they arrived late and we all got them today.

Mangiapane scored his first NHL point, Bennett chipped in a goal, and Kylington may have been the best player on the ice on a 7-1 game with no points.

I'm not saying it was all us. But clearly it was all us.

This is nonsense. Smith has registered two shutouts this season, both of which were dominant performances. This was a solid outing.

Any calming of the collective nerves of some on here regarding Smith is best to let be.

I'm not sure who came up with it but credit to someone from one of the recent Oil trade threads. Too perfect.

And a damn fine one at that.

Textcritic--you deserve a lot of credit for being reasonable in the one thread about Smith where people demanded his head. You were consistent in your message regarding how difficult it is to (a) find a reliable backup midseason and (b) trade to acquire such a player midseason. (This is not even to mention all the "behind the scenes" stuff related to Smith being a respected veteran in the league.)

I say this only because I am firmly in the camp that believes that Rittich and Smith should be the tandem for the remainder of this season. I think Smith will regain enough form to turn in more performances like the one tonight and be at least a solid backup. If we want to make a change with either goaltender, we do it in the offseason.

I've said it before and I'll likely say it again: in my view, our biggest needs are (a) a solid bottom-four defenceman, who is mobile enough, but tough enough to wear down opposing forwards, and;
(b) a Nieminen/Nilsson/Donovan circa 2004 grinding forward who pushes the play, seems inexhaustible, can score timely goals and who will annoy the opposition.

I just don't think it's going to be worth us looking for a goalie for this year's playoff push. I think these other areas are more important.

Tkachuk having more even strength points than Lindholm while playing on the second line is crazy.

To be fair, Lindholm has to sit at even strength every shift after the Flames PK
