No, no. I think you should turn in your man card, for being a dinosaur!

Wilson played as recently as 1993. Seems like someone you might have a passing knowledge of.

It was a joke, just to make sure we are on the same page.

BTW, I'm not much older than you. I'm just an old soul.

I’m old—older than the Flames: Calgary Edition. And I remember BOTH stints Wilson had as a Flame. One of my all-time favourites!

The Leafs are better off in figuring out a trade between the Canes, receiving a player like Pesce who is signed long term on a very friendly deal.
I mean, if they want to win a cup they need one really great defenseman. Rielly is good, not great. Doughty would probably put them into the status of cup favorite if they could fit him in.

I agree that long term that team would struggle to field a team under the cap. But elite talent costs money. Doughty would be worth it if they're serious about going after the cup. The defense they have right now is not going to get them there.

I'm just saying it makes sense for both teams without long term caps being considered.

I actually think it makes a lot of sense, I just don't know if the Leafs have enough pieces to make that deal happen.
Lots of pieces to rebuild with. Carter, Pearson, Toffoli, and Muzzin get you boatloads of picks and prospects. Quick does too. And Kovalchuk, though you can't trade him for at least another year.

If you want to go crazy, you can also move Kopitar.

But personally, I keep Kopitar and Doughty to show the new kids the right way to play.

Trading the best defenseman in the league (who is only 28) for pieces, is how you turn your franchise into a perennial basement dweller.

I don't have any issue with that.

Wilson (#33) played with Colin Patterson (#11) and Richie Kromn (#22), sometimes called the tic-tac-toe line, a bit like our 3M line today. They had some success together.

I would gladly accept William Nylander on the Flames.

That kid is shifty and creative and would give us two exceptional top lines.

I say Treliving should go for it. I would even pony up a 1st round pick and a depth D man for him.

Any and every situation I can think of where the Flames get Nylander means the Flames don’t acquire a proven goaltender.

It’s a risk. Not sure i’d want to take it.

My problem is not with the player. Adding Nylander the player would be sheer brilliance. The surrounding factors though make acquiring Nylander out of the question. even adding him at a 6x6 (which is fair IMO) would really tighten things up moving forward with the Tkachuk re-sigining needed, goaltending has to be addressed as early as this deadline (Unless a catastrophy occurs this will likely be decided in the off-season /sigh). Then there players like Bennett and Jankowski and eventually having enough space for kids coming off ELC's in as early as two years.

There's a bit of room with Frolik and Stone coming off the books at some point but that space alone should be earmarked for Tkachuk salary alone.

^^^I think Rittich is fine as a starting goalie for the Flames. All I want from a starting goalie for the Flames, and all I think this team needs with their offensive weapons, is an average NHL starting goalie, and I think Rittich is that.

They were the Dice Line.

All Flames fans should know the legend of Carey Wilson because he gave his spleen to the Battle of Alberta: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/spor...rticle1338136/

The tic-tac-toe line? I don't call any line for the Flames being called that. I recall the Patterson-Wilson-Kromm line being called the "dice line" while they were together, but never heard of them referred to as the tic-tac-toe line.

You're right. Definitely a real ripple effect within the team in terms of future signability issues. If Treliving sees it as either Nylander or Tkachuk then you gotta go Tkachuk but if it's a matter of Nylander or Bennett and Jankowski I would have to lean towards Nylander. I just feel like the opportunity to acquire a young controllable player like Nylander doesn't come along often.

Rittich has been good. I want a larger sample size before deciding to be comfortable with him moving forward. And, I believe he will be up for a new deal within two seasons as well, so if he does earn #1 status and does become the guy that can deliver the mail for the team, he's gonna get paid too. Still puts Nylander in the cannot trade for list.

I don't care if he's traded or signed by the Leafs. I really need his points for my playoff pool.

I had some naive idea that he would sign once the season started. Gawd I was wrong

Has Nylander played center in the NHL at all?
