Chiasson has not been the problem.

Agree on Sam.

That was the worst I've seen Gaudreau play in his time with the Flames, miscue after miscue, errant passes, turning the wrong direction when he had time and space, couldn't handle the puck, and it seemed like he had no fight. Extremely disappointed with his performance tonight.

It is also annoys the hell out of me that he continues to be saddled up with Chaisson. I have nothing against him, he is what he is, a checker with good size and decent speed, goes to the net hard but man it just seems like a waste having him out there with JG.

Also can Sam Bennett please step up. That is all.

Take everything you have... and I mean EVERYTHING! Mortgage your house, sell your mini-van, sell the kids and the patio furniture, and the iPads and the Ikea dishes, cash in the RRSPs and knock out your gold fillings and take them to the pawn shop. Then take all of that money and put it down on the Oilers in tomorrow nights game.

Huge Devils (and if not the Devils pull hard for the transplanted Flames) fan here.... Was at the game tonight. Have suffered through many beatings at the hands of Calgary over the past few years. Including the game where Brodeur got pulled after Sarich and Jbow scored.

Was shocked to see the Devils out shooting any team... That doesn't happen often (or ever)...

Was equally shocked how invisible Bennett was, to the point I wasn't sure he dressed.

Didn't notice Gaudreau on the ice at all.

I've always liked Wideman, but he struck me as slow and generally not great.

I had a slight epiphany.

I really, truly believe that the third line should (at least for now) become Gaudreau-Stajan-Bennett.

Sam is struggling to be a good NHLer, period, let alone a good centerman. And Johnny has not been very good or aware defensively lately (Bennett isn't too strong in that department either). Bringing in a reliable defensive center to help stabilize that line a bit I think might help them a lot. At the very least, bringing in Stajan automatically makes them more responsible.

Really think GG should take a ponder about making the move. Bennett needs to learn the ropes of being an NHLer that can produce before being a moulded into a C. Hamilton is capable of centering the 4th line. I think it'd be the right/best move, given the struggles of those two players in particular of late. If they can't make things happen, at least make them less of a liability and give them a veteran presence to help settle things down.

Maybe its time to try something outside the box just to try and get some players going offensively.

Tkachuk – Backlund – Frolik
Gaudreau – Monahan – Bennett
Versteeg – Hamilton – Brouwer
Hathaway – Stajan – Bouma

Can't beat a tired last place in East Devils team when they play there back up. win one lose one against bottom feeders. Best players seem to be taking the season off and don't show up most nights. If they don't believe in themselves and this team how can I?

The same Minnesota team who suddenly figured things out and became the best team in the West overnight? Yeah, I'll be fine if we end up like Minnesota.

Don't forget everyone, we're still in the "jog" phase in Burke's analogy. Jogging means you aren't really close to going full tilt and nights like this still happen.

Next year or two we "run".

Hopefully we get to the "sprint" stage with this young core.

Gaudreau's stick handling seems much poorer lately. I wonder if it could be residual effects of the hand injury.

I disagree. The player isn't the problem. He's a solid bottom six forward but the fact he's playing on the top line is a massive problem. Skill-wise he's a massive drop off from Hudler and I feel it's defiantly impacted Gaudreau and Monahan. I'm not saying they should have brought Hudler back because he was on a steep decline but they really miss having an offensively creative winger like him. Brouwer doesn't really address the loss of skill from Hudler as this team has got bigger over the past few seasons but slower and less skilled and that's the problem. It appears the team is trying to emulate the Blues but unfortunately the Blues aren't the poster boys for post season success because they are big but not the most skilled team. The Hawks IMO are the team you want to emulate and it appeared the team was on track for that but they took a detour into getting bigger and are now simply a middling team that lacks skill.

Should have hired Boudreau I guess. When he takes a team over they jump up huge in the standings.

And then disappoint perennially in the playoffs. I'm fine with Gulutzan. IF Boudreau ever gets to a SCF we can address whether we should have hired him or not.

That was the worst ever game from Gaudreau I've seen in his playing career. He looked like he was trying junior moves - some of which worked, kinda, but mostly fails.

Also one of Wideman's poopier games. There were multiple people in my section loudly voicing their displeasure every time he screwed up a play or made a weak play. Some of it comically exaggerated ("Wideman! You're a terrible person!") thanks to heroin beers.

I was really disappointed in Gulutzan's lack of adjustment to the Devils neutral zone trapping. Multiple times trying to skate/pass it in through the middle, almost all of it forced. And when we did get a dump in past NJ lining up across the blueline we almost never had the forechecker in on time.

I suppose the positives are that we played largely like crap up and down the board with the exception of Johnson and the 3Ms, and still managed to make it an exciting game to the end. But damn that's a bad loss to take.

Pretty typical trap game. Hate when it happens but it's a reason they're called that.

Big win against the division leaders with minute left, and a Saturday night contest against a bitter rival. One that actually has meaning. And sandwiched in between is what looks like an easy game against an eastern conference also-ran.

They will be ready to go against the Oilers.
