True.

Bishop is a free agent after next year. Who says he doesn't walk and we are right back to square one. We need a younger goalie that has some experience (Anderson/Reimer).

I think a lot of posters are significantly underrating Reimer. Not only did he put up decent numbers on a horrific Toronto team, he has done significant work on the fundamentals of his game since then. He's one of the goalies who have gone in for head-trajectory training, and I have heard from several sources that this partly accounts for his good performance in San Jose.

Is he the solution to the Flames' goaltending troubles? All by himself, no. But there are only a couple of starters' jobs that he can realistically try for this year, and I believe he'll have to sign for a lot less than the $5 million figure some people are tossing around. That, of course, doesn't mean that the team stops looking for better alternatives. But Reimer could look pretty good as one half of a tandem. Andersen-Reimer? Fleury-Reimer? Fleury has always had off periods in his game; with him as your #1, you want a strong backup, which is exactly what Reimer has proven to be in San Jose.

I'd be more than happy going into next season with Reimer-Ortio as our tandem.

I think we're probably going to qualify Ortio and then pick up one other goalie. I'd be thrilled to get a Fleury or Bishop, but the price tag and attendant clear number 1 status makes me a little concerned as I'm pretty high on Ortio's chances of being a bonafide NHL starter.

Reimer on the other hand has numbers which make me happy, however has never shown he can be "the guy." I like the idea of two younger goalies competing and pushing each other to get the net for a lower cost more than an established guy like Bishop or Fleury coming in and being all but guaranteed 50+ starts.

This Bishop and Fleury business is really far fetched. These guys are simply not where the Flames are... people hoping for them will be let down.

We have and will need salary tied up elsewhere for now. If the team were ready to make a strong run then sure, you go to an expensive veteran. Instead I'm pretty sure our group knows we have to address this need as affordably as possible. That means not using rebuild assets in a trade and limiting dollars in the best possible TANDEM. We don't just need one goalie here... we need like 3.

My bet is Reimer and Enroth type 1/2 to get us to Gillies. Maybe Kuemper for a 2nd tops and then sign Reimer. Would love Pickard but I see his price being above a 2nd if he's even available.

No problem with Reimer if that's who it turns out to be. Still a young goalie and I think that he is eager to prove to the league that he's not a one hit wonder. Reimer kind of reminds of a Tom Barasso type goalie. Middle of the road goalie who shows up to play in big games. In either case, middle of the road goaltending would be a big upgrade for this team and we shouldn't break the bank trying to land a high-end goaltender with the type of defense we have.

Looking at the available goalies, I would add 2 more keeping in mind the assets they would cost us as well as the salary cap (considering the Johnny and Sean salary increases)

Jaroslav Halak
- 31 years old
- 2 years left @ 4.5 millions.
- Career .917 save percentage

Greiss has unseated Halak as the No.1 for the Isles (they have Berube as backup). they need the $$ to sign Okposo/ replacement and other UFA's. We can offer them Stajan with a combination of salary retained / draft pick)

Flames get Halak for the next 2 years for cheap by getting out of some / all of that Stajan salary without giving up much in assets and bank on Gillies being ready by then.

Jonathan Bernier
- 27 years old
- 1 year left @ 4.125 mil
- Career .915 save percentage ( for some reason he played waaay better on the road in his 3 years with the Leafs (.920 sv% on the road vs. .910 sv% at ACC)

Leafs are looking for a new starter. If they find one, they need to get rid of Bernier's contract. We can offer them Raymond to save them around 2 mil and get a player who did very well for them 2 years ago.

Calgary gets Bernier for 1 year at a real cap hit of 2 million (4.15 - 2.2 of Raymond) without giving up any assets. If he does really well, we extend him. if not, there will be a bunch of goalies to choose from next year between UFA's (Bishop, Mason, Elliot, Neuvirth, Greiss etc...) and the expansion draft ( Fleury, Andersen, Mrazek)

Bernier makes sense in a way of the Flames go with 2 new goalies next year. For instance if they are able to pry shake Allen out of St.Louis for something along the lines of Ortio, 2nd, prospect then trade a crappy contract like Wideman, Raymond, or Smid for Bernier then I am all for it.

I am against bringing in Bernier if he is expected to battle Ortio for the top spot

I want take a chance on Carey Price. Maybe the Habs move him for a 5th rounder, he's coming off a bad injury. Don't think one should pay more then that.

The Flames sniffed around Bernier last season and for whatever reason didn't get anything done so I don't see them revisiting especially seeing they can get Reimer who was clearly better last season without giving up assets. Unless the Leafs feel they can re-sign Reimer I don't see why they would be interested in moving Bernier as I don't see them going into next season with a tandem of Sparks and Bibeau unless they plan on tanking again.

Highly doubt Reimer would re-sign in Toronto based on the abuse he went through there.

I'm pretty sure i read that he was hoping to re-sign with the leafs last year. His demands on contract were to much for the leafs. IMO I would not count out the leafs re-signing Reimer. If some posters are right and Reimer can be had for short term and just under $5 million, then i would think the leafs would be interested.

I don't think Reimer's "demands" were so much that he wanted back in Toronto as it was his way of pushing for a trade out of Toronto.

I wonder if Cam Ward will even get a contract. He hasn't been over 91% since the 11-12 season. He's also 32.

Maybe someone will sign him as a part of a tandem or as a backup. Maybe he goes unsigned until injuries affect goalies during the season.

Seems like the chips are falling right for Fleury.

If Gilles is part of a deal that see's us get a top 10 goalie I am 100% ok with that. If Fleury doesn't work out. Bishop if he's not too expensive. Andersson also depends on cost. Then Reimer.

Ortio under a million would be a good backup

But none of those should require having to give up Gillies.

It's a buyer's market - we should have no trouble acquiring a goalie and keeping Gillies.

I would be intrigued with 1 year of Bernier and let him prove himself.

Or 2 years of Reimer at $4 million/per. But no more than that, especially in term.

Don't know why everyone would want Bishop for just 1 season. What's the point?
