It's 3 months enough though? After that he's a UFA and then what?

Well it was damned near impossible to do worse.

Also, I found that Dubnyk always played well against the Flames. He was actually fairly frustrating.. So I'm glad he's gone.

I was watching TH2N and Kouleas was saying that .915 is the NHL average at the moment.
Granted, he seems to have some agenda against how the NHL is attributing saves, he pokes fun at it fairly regularly. Not as regularly as he call Button 'my friend' (which is getting weird and awkward), but he comments on save percentage no less.
So, according to Kouleas the NHL average save percentage is .915.

I don't really get that at all.
Schneider is a very different commodity than Scrivens. Schneider is a true No. 1 goaltender, who cost Luongo and is now costing Brodeur his job. And Schneider wasn't a pending UFA. Also, the Devils gave up a top ten pick to get him (which turned into Bo Horvat, a pretty good looking prospect), not a third.
As they are both pending UFAs, I really see Scrivens = Dubnyk.
So, to my mind, the Oil basically just traded a third round pick and half of Dubnyk's salary for this season for an aging, slightly overpaid fourth liner on a four year contract.
Surely a fourth liner (let alone a 32 year old on a pricey four year contract) shouldn't cost so much in today's NHL?

They were good in the 80's when they had a player named Wayne Gretzky and quite a few others with good talent. Made the cup finals in the 05-06 against the Hurricanes, and lost in 7 games. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I think they were up 3-2 in the series just like us in 03-04 and lost the last two games.
But ever since they lost in the SCF's in 05-06, they've sucked. Been in "rebuild mode" ever since. I laugh, because we've already made better progress than they have. They're getting better, but not really that much at all.

The guy went from being worse than Dubnyk on a team that gave up around 32 shots per game (27th in the league) to looking great on a team giving up 27 shots per game (3rd lowest in the league). I'm not even going to hesitate suggesting that he probably won't look as good now that he's facing around 32 shots per game again with a lot of them being high quality.

Kouleas and Button briefly discussed it and I get the impression that Kouleas thinks its an artificially inflated stat due to fairly loose attribution of 'saves.'
Its tough to say definitively because I'm not going to dig through mountains of stats and data, but I think that .915 being the league average is very skewed.
And you're old. Theres also that.

.913 actually, which is the highest in a long time. This is a chart of every year since '82, reg season and playoffs; it's about a week old.

Well, so far this season, the Oilers have a whopping 2 wins against the Pacific Division (both against the Flames). They have 15 games remaining against the Pacific (2 against the Kings). If this helps the Oilers get a couple of wins against the teams the Kings are fighting for playoff position with, it helps the Kings in the end.
Prior to this season, Dubnyk put up better numbers (both GAA and SV%) playing more games than Scrivens when they were both playing for relatively equally bad defensive teams. So, it is certainly debatable whether they actually upgraded anything. They would at least be saving money if they hadn't retained half of Dubnyk's salary.

I see Scrivens re-signing with the Oilers, but the Oilers will probably overpay in the process.

The cost to acquire was to high for how proven the goalie was.
Also, it was a desperation move by NJ in a very deep draft.
Finally, Schneider is 7-9 in 22GP and Brodeur is 13-9 in 26GP. Hardly costing a 41 year old, who could very well be on his way out this year, his job. Schneider was brought in as his successor, but I think they overpaid... same with Edmonton and 19 GP Schrivens.

I think the Oilers are (slightly) better because of the two trades. The addition of Hendricks will be good for them I think.

fyp
What goalie* would want to play in a system that gets him shelled with pucks every night without getting compensated accordingly.
*I assume Bryz's didn't understand what was going on there due to english being his second language.

Just listened to scrivens on Edmonton radio and he says he won't change anything in how he approaches playing for the Oilers compared to the Kings.
ummm....how won't it be different?
