I saw The Naked Gun on Saturday, and highly recommend it. It's been a long time since a fun comedy was in theatre, and it holds its own.
They didn't try to copy the originals, nor did they just give in to fan service (looking at you, Happy Gilmore), but it was just funny on its own merits.
I feel like the consumers don't know how to manage their expectations anymore. I liken it to going to In N Out burger in the US. You know the fries will be subpar, but the burger will be great, the lemonade killer, and the value fantastic. Five Guys is a million times better on every account, minus the beverages, but it's also like 4x the price.
If you go in thinking everything needs to be equal or better to something, then you'll be disappointed in life. If you go in with a firm understanding of what something is, and it meets - or in the case of this new Naked Gun movie, surpasses - expectations, then you'll probably live a more joyous, less anal-retentive life.
