Superman was great. James Gunn has an expert grasp on the superhero genre.
I continue to be interested to see what he does with DC.
I wouldn't call it great, but it was good. Solid intro to this take on the DC universe and I like the retro feel of the take on Superman.
Though for supposedly not being another Superman origin story movie it sure had a lot of origin story feel. The camera work in the fights was a little much at times IMO, and thought only Guy was a good addition out of the Justice Gang, the others were kind of meh... Also why was Hawk Girl screaming the whole time, do hawks scream the whole time???
Overall enjoyed it.

I enjoyed Jurassic World Rebirth. Was a fun cinematic experience that made great use of the Atmos surround sound. Is easily the best of the Jurassic World reboots and thankfully mostly ignores them in a return to the series roots. There are lots of call backs to the original series including being trapped on an abandoned island, like JP 3, and an Alan Grant stand in. The plot and characters are half baked but work well enough to set up some great dinosaur set pieces. I did especially hate the useless boyfriend character and they could have done so much more with just a single dad trying to connect with his daughters. Another thing that bugged me was the focus on extra scary hybrid dinosaurs when regular dinosaurs are more than scary enough. The T-Rex scene was the best part of the movie. Also had to laugh at the plot point about people no longer caring about dinosaurs. They will always be cool. Will give a solid 7/10.
While its not in the same league as the first two, it's the best since the third and maybe more enjoyable than the third due to having less grating characters.
Peculiar to see the 52% critic score given the above, but maybe the critics are just over the franchise after the last two.
I didnt mind the mutants this time because they didnt take center stage like in the other ones (indominus becoming the main attraction). Ideally there would be no mutants but this was an ok compromise.
You could recycle the same 6-7 species from the first movie indefinitely and it would be "wow enough", as Pratts character fittingly put it.
Its weird that even Spielberg purportedly had a human-dino mutants sequel planned in the mid 2000s after 3. The original blueprint was never broke, why they tryin' to fix it with dumb ####.

I went to see Superman just for the hell of it, not excited but thought it would be fun, ended up catching it again and the 2nd viewing was more enjoyable.
Superman will have to win me over. Never been a big fan and the trailers I found underwhelming, but enough people have said positive things that ill check it out..
I'll give Gunn props if he can be the one to finally get me on board with an iteration of superman.
I enjoyed Superman but didn't think it was great.
I wish somehow someone would push back on bloated CGI action sequences, like the anti-proton river. That just totally took me out of the movie. Reminded me of the dumb river sequences in first Hobbit movie. But worse.

Watched Trap (2024) directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Astonishingly bad. One of the worst movies I've seen in some time. Seems like an attempt by M. Night to get his daughter a Hollywood role, she plays a major part in this movie and is not good at all. The premise of the film feels like something Chat GPT would have spit out if you asked it for a film with an M Night Shyamalan twist. I could go on.

She is screaming because she has an alien xenomorph inside her chest!

I think that the nepo thing was the only point of that movie. That really needed to be less of the focus in that movie.

Capernaum was ridiculously good, from start to finish. I just wish we got some closure at the end as to the result of the entire premise, but that doesn't it stop it from being of the better movies I've seen this year. Honestly felt like someone could have been following this kid around Beirut and filming real life as it happened.

You can't say Hartnett didn't wring all he could out of that script though.

Agreed it might be the 3rd best in the franchise.
Will say that JP 3 is underrated. Definitely had some annoying characters and could have been 30 minutes longer but was a fun dinosaur adventure.
Also think the first Jurrasic World is overrated. The Indominus Rex and training Raptors were stupid. Also had no likeable characters with the leads having zero chemistry and those brothers being just the worst. Was a lazily written soft reboot that failed to match the tone of the original and inspired two worse sequels.
