That said, I just don’t see how rural Alberta will change no matter what is done. They are just plain right wing. And not just fiscally.
This. People saying the NDP need to go after the rural vote? How are they supposed to win there? 1600 votes in Calgary woulda flipped this whole thing to an NDP majority compared to 10,000 votes for a single seat in rural AB.

Lacombe Panoka? 72% after comparing LGBTQ kids to #### that ruins the cookie batter.

Livingstone Macleod? Chelsea Petrovic 3x’d Kevin Van Tighem’s vote count in the headwaters that will now become coal mines.

The Green Party with just a few votes has managed to screw a bunch of ridings. Shandro may win because of them.

All politicians are constantly on the attack. We've changed as a society in the last 30 years from getting our news on TV at 6pm or the next day in print to a 24/7 gong show. To succeed in modern politics you have to be a bit of a snake oil salesman (more than in the past), Layton was that.

I think I voted Green once. Back then I was smoking hash daily (no joke).

Part of it is reaching out to people and meeting them where they want to talk. Make LGBT issues and abortion about freedom. It’s years of work saying I’m not scary here is what we want to do.

I'm not stupid I know know bias when I see it. Regardless of the opinion or source. A person can have personal bias but put it aside and be objective, try it.

From CBC:
Quote:
Notley plans to stay on as leader

"Now is the time for us to do the work that has been asked of us it is my honour to serve as your leader and it is my privilege to continue to serve as leader of the Official Opposition."
For what it's worth.

Dude. Have you ever talked to a rural RWer about abortion or LGBTQ+ stuff? I’ve lived in a bunch of small towns and believe me, they aren’t fussed about freedom unless it’s freedom to do what they want - not about freedoms for other people different from themselves. Religion colors it a lot, but frankly, it’s just too hard to change a bigot’s mind.

How is CBC quoting Notley saying what her plans are some sort of left wing bias?

I think you’ve just disproven that you can listen to something objectively.

Well, that's a bit of an embarrassing result for the province, but not a surprising one.

How long do we think Smith lasts before the TBA overlords cast her aside? Doubt it's even halfway through her term

I know Doug Schweitzer (not well - just from work) and I am on a charity board with Aheer. You ain’t wrong. Although they won’t come out about it explicitly of course. They can’t stand her and what she’s doing.

But I think she’s actually consolidated her power because those types quit rather than stay and fight for party direction from within.

It will take years to change rural AB’s mind on these issues, if they haven’t already dug in their feet.

NDP’s best play going forward is to focus on the cities and smaller urban centres just like they did this election. It’s sad but true — they will never win a majority of votes in rural AB when a candidate that compares lgbtq to literal #### wins 72% of the vote.

No, she said she ran to clean up the corruption.

She ran for her own ego, that much is plain as day.

I really love that angle but it just seems naïve to me. Those people only care about 'their' freedom, screw everyone else's. But ideally it's not naïve at all and I'm just the jaded one here

Seeing a 10,964 NDP lead over 10,957 UCP in Shadro's riding is crazy with 98% reporting here.

Alberta has the government it deserves.
