No, I think you are right more or less. I remember all the speculation he was on the way out because they hadn’t extended him before the last year of his contract.
It’s not solely in the Flames control anyway. Treliving isn’t disliked across the league and if I’m him I’m checking the market in the last year to see if there’s any other spots that might open up, at the very least to improve his bargaining position.

3rd round pick + a prospect isn't bad depending on the prospect.

Hard pass on Schenn. He looks good right now because he's being sheltered like Gudbrandson was in Calgary. The moment he moves from Vancouver, he'll probably turn back into a pumpkin

No thanks on wasting draft picks again on a depth dman.
This team has shown all season they do not deserve us shipping out picks for any players.

Yeah, I think Schenn is pretty much a certainty for us, unless something more off the wall happens (like Chychrun.)
I see people interested in bottom 6 talent, but I think we need a top 6 winger or bust. Kravtsov asking for a trade...

Schenn makes a lot of sense in that Treliving loves to spend depth picks on depth pieces. It’s almost an annual occurrence despite their complete lack of impact.
Forbort would probably be the best one he’s done.
I don’t like it.

Would he not be deployed the exact same as Gudbranson was here?
But in spirit I agree, he’s a marginal upgrade IF THAT over Stone and the prices at the deadline are always silly

Wasn't Pagnota hinting at some Flames news today and Loubo was all down about it on the broadcast Saturday?
Maybe Lou hates Luke Schenn

Just a little flashback to 2019 when we almost got Zucker in an atrocious trade. I hope Treliving loses his phone for a while. And maybe it's good that Murray Edwards gets involved sometimes. The 1st rounder ended up being Jakob Pelletier.
Quote:
The Athletic and TSN confirmed soon after the Feb. 25 deadline that Fenton and Flames GM Brad Treliving had been on the phone right up until the 2 p.m. deadline, but no trade was ever consummated and no trade call to Central Registry was made. It’s unclear exactly why the trade fell apart, but the Wild were told the Flames couldn’t get official approval in time from owner Murray Edwards, who was out of the country.
It’s believed the trade would have been for Michael Frolik and a first-round pick. It makes sense the Flames would need approval because Frolik had only one year left on his deal at $4.3 million and Zucker had signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract the previous summer.

As more and more time passes, I get a bigger and bigger feeling that the Flames are going to do something totally crazy and bring in a big player. It's almost like things are too quiet. Plus a lot of other big trades seem to be stalling out, which can be a sign that another interested party is throwing out last minute offers. That interested party could be the Flames.

It feels to me like that period prior to our acquisition of Jokinen. Ryan O'Reilly is IMO the potential player.

Feels like getting Schenn would be a move just to make a move. To give a spark or something. Doesn't seem to move the needle at all though.

If there's a big splash, I see it being Chychrun
Sounds like coyotes are really holding out for a return they like though and so that makes me a bit wary
Konecny is the player that I would be interested in at fwd
Schenn for a 3rd seems like an add that doesn't provide much for a pick that could be useful .. I'd rather play a lesser price for any of the other 6/7 Ds out there without multiple bidders

It really feels like BT is extremely active. Like he's on the phone 24/7 with every GM in the league right now.
Really hope it's not ROR. He Looks done. Plus so much bad juju there after that whole Feaster fiasco.
I get the feeling the Flames are definitely involved with Chychrun right now. The LAK deal was a done deal, then BT stepped in.
