Solid episode. The boombox punk call-back was great, and finding out that it was the same actor makes it even better. I also enjoyed the scenes with young Guinan. I liked that the actress put her own spin on the character and didn't try to imitate Whoopi.

Interesting that Seven immediately knew how to drive a 300-year old antique car. Definitely a good skill to have if you're travelling through time.

She knows how to throw it in gear and operate it, but seemingly can't help herself from driving like a psychopath... :\

I thought it would have been funnier if she had no idea what she was doing rather than being instantly awesome at it.

The callback was great, but its been almost 40 years and that guy is still riding the Bus? Why did he move from San Francisco to LA? What have his employment prospects been like?

He's in his 60s now, maybe he's found love but lost it because he just couldnt shake his insane habit of carrying around a boombox when it is literally the most preposterous medium for consuming music pretty much anywhere, let alone on a bus.

Does he have mental health issues? Is he a Q? The unanswered questions abound! Inquiring minds demand answers!!

Overall though, that episode was ok. Just ok. A bit of a slide from prior episodes, but nowhere near the tire-fire of that other show.

I presume anybody who plays music aloud on public transportation is mentally ill.

Star Trek does play it loose with causality and that can make it hard to follow. On one hand, they say the divergence happened in 2024 and everything before that was cool, but then every ST show messed around with their present day earth. So if those crews didn't exist, 2024 wouldn't be normal.

I just think of Yesterday's Enterprise Guinan where she knew the timeline was messed up due to special genetic properties. So she still should have vibes off of Picard. Also, I thought it was cool she had a 10 Forward Bar on Earth after running the bar in the forward section of deck 10 on the Enterprise. The fact that she had it 400 years earlier made no sense.

I wonder what is so important about the Europa Mission?

Angus being the future Borg queen is an interesting theory. She could be the one saying help us Pircard, with us being her in Borg.

Whaaaa...?? No way!

Now I want Agnes to become Angus. Wear a kilt, play the bagpipes and have an indecipherable Scottish accent.

"It was the timeline! We swear!"

God I would hate that, it would be worse then what they did to the Borg in Voyager.

Looking up what that actor has done in terms of the muppets and other things is amazing.

I'm basing this on my own fuzzy memory without looking up the Star Trek lore online, but isn't there a huge global war sometime in the 21st century? And this ultimately leads to the events seen in First Contact where Zephram Cochrane invents the warp drive and meets the Vulcans, which in turn leads to a golden age of peace for humanity? It would be an interesting -- although thoroughly depressing -- twist if the single event in 2024 that Picard and his crew must change is something that leads to the electoral defeat of a loathsome Trump-like fascist in that year's US election. Without that person in power, the events that will cause WWIII and ultimately First Contact never happen. It would sort of be like the opposite scenario from The City on the Edge of Forever where Kirk has to allow Edith to die in order to ensure 20th century fascism is defeated. In this scenario, Picard has to save a 21st century fascist leader in order to ensure WWIII occurs but humanity ultimately has a brighter future.

Edit: I just looked it up on Memory-Alpha. In the fictional Star Trek future, WWIII starts in 2026, so the timing for this certainly checks out.

What leads up to that is the Eugenics Wars of the 1990s where Khan and the genetically engineered superhumans were the rulers of earth so we are already past the Prime Universe timeline.

I was reading somewhere that the Eugenics wars are still Canon, but have been changed to be primarily occuring in Asia/north Africa.

Just realized 2024 California is the same time and place as Sisko, Bashir and Dax in Past Tense.

Come on deaged Avery Brooks!

I'd love a eugenics war super dark series. Even if its only one year and leads to Khan's leaving earth.

There was a line in there about Rios ending up in a Sanctuary district. I can't remember exactly what they said, but it stood out and I thought that was a nice callback.

DS9 was in San Francisco, Picard is in LA. The times don't match up either, as Picard is set in April 2024, and DS9 was September 2024.
