Buy a loaf of bread, freeze it, rob a bank with frozen bread, problem solved.

Who cares. CP > Food.

Honestly, cheap and healthy is tough to fit in the same sentence.

You can buy some bulk chickpeas/beans. Super cheap, has lots of protein and fiber. Gotta buy sale everything. If you need milk, get powdered milk. And of course, buy no-name brand. Good luck!

You know prostitution is a perfectly acceptable means to earn an income when you're a student.

Chilli is always a great, healthy, cheap meal. You can throw lots of veggies in and it'll be about $1.50 per meal. I make a massive batch, and freeze it in individual tupperware containers.

I would buy:

Carrots
An onion
Celery
A zucchini
A bell pepper (green is the cheapest obviously)
Two cans of crushed tomatoes
One or two cans of beans (substitute one with a small thing of ground beef if you want)
Some chilli peppers, depending on how hot you want it
Any other veggies you want

To prepare it, you'll need some s+p, cumin, chilli powder, brown sugar, olive oil.

I make a big pot and get at least 7 meals out of this - all of it costs around $12 (at superstore).

Next time a Bible thumper comes to the door you can kill them, harvest the carcass, and freeze them. Everyone knows Holy Meat tastes best! Just ask an alter boy!

I'm working on it for you Sly.

Do you have anything at home, like salt, vinegar, margarine, ketchup, etc - or are you starting completely from scratch?

FYI - looking at the Wal-Mart flyer, they have cans of Campbell's soup (Tomato, Vegetable, Chicken Noodle or Cream of Mushroom) on for $0.50/can. All of these are great ways to stretch ingredients into 2 or 3 meals instead of 1.

The Cream of Mushroom makes a good gravy over rice for instance that with a little ground beef added to it makes a decent meal - just add a veggie as a side.

If you're making chili, a great way to deepen the flavour and stretch it as well is to add tomato soup to it.

Vegetable soup becomes a really good meal if you add some ichiban to it.

We used to put canned salmon on toast and then pour mushroom soup on top, tasted good and superfilling

A bit off topic but... frozen hashbrown + onions fried up and then dump a can of condensed mushroom soup on top will cure any hangover. This may come in handy this sunday.

I can attest to this, however you're room mates would rather use a public bathroom at a dirty gas station rather then your own after eating this.

My vote is for the food bank as well.

When I was travelling around Australia My gf (now wife) and I had exactly $23.42 to last us 2 weeks until our next job picking apples in Bonnybrook started. We went to the food bank a couple of time in those 2 weeks and the farmer and his wife were really nice to us. They know that we were coming to work but they didn;t have anything for us. His wife would make extra supper and give it to us at the campground we were staying at.

That was defiitaly a low point in my life but it make you appreciate the other things.

Back on topic... We went to the food bank a cople of time and when we came back home and got decent jobs we bought one of those food bank things at the grocery store with our groceries each time for around a year.

we also volunteered at the Mustard Seed on year at Christmas (That will give you some perspective on things I'll tell you!!)

Doesn't the UofC have a food bank that your tuition helps fund??

My co-worker thinks there is.

So technically it's food you have already paid for
