I really enjoyed his treatise on turtle stacking.

I agree completely, his anapestic tetrameter in that particular piece of work was heavenly.

I particularly enjoined the piece that spoke about about anti-isolationism and internationalism, it was a monologue of sorts with respect to a fellow named Horton

I'm moving back into the light reading thing. For the last couple of years I've read nothing but non fiction books.

I recently picked up some of the wing commander books and had forgotten how solid they were.

I just finished reading Ex-General Rick Hilliers book and thought it was a really interesting read.

I pretty much only read baseball books.

I just finishes The Echoing Green by Joshua Prager. By far one of the best historical baseball books i've read. loved it.

Two of my all-time favorites are both by an author named Bryce Courtenay.
The Power of One and the sequel, Tandia. Two of the best stories you will ever read.

Just finished Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar. This is an amazing book for anyone, especially for literature fanatics.

Given I've picked up exactly one SF book in the last year, I haven't read any of those. Is there a fantasy list equivalent?

Been reading both the Bitterwood series by James Maxey and The Night Watch and sequels by Sergei Lukyanenko. I quite like the latter... Russian modern fantasy translated into English by a Brit, heh.

Those polls are supposed to cover both genres.

Here are some specific fantasy lists:

Yeah, I gathered that much given the token WoT entry, but otherwise, pretty much all SF. Cool other lists though.

I'm reading David Sedaris' book When You are Engulfed in Flames and it's pretty entertaining. I read one of his other books - Me Talk Pretty One Day and it's hysterical. His chapter about Easter with broken French translated to English is piss your pants funny.

I've read freakenomics, It was ok. Some interesting premises, but I definitley question some of their conclusions. The actual "economics" behind it seem pretty questionable to me

I just finished "Where Men Win Glory" by John Krakauer (the guy who wrote Into The Wild). It's the story of Pat Tillman, the guy who quit the NFL to enter the army. Amazing, amazing book.

I just finished "The Last Crossing" by Guy Vanderhaeghe and "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson, both of which I liked.

Also, I would recommend "The Madonna List" by Max Foran (who was and may still be a U of C prof) for those who liked "The DaVinci Code".

Gordon freaking Korman. I used to love those Bruno & Boots books when I was younger. I started reading "Beware the Fish" to my kids the other night and was surprised to find that those books are still pretty damn funny.
