ahah I loved how Jackman, in his intro ended with "I'm Wolverine" I laughed pretty hard. The Beyonce musical number was painful to watch.

I liked the show. Jackman was a good host. Other than the singing numbers he didn't have much to do. Other hosts would crack jokes throughout the show.
I like how they toned it down and did the awards in the order of how a movie is made. I agree with chid, The Beyonce number was painful and so was Seth Rogen's comedy bit, what was that?

I thought that short comedy bit that copied from Pineapple Express was the best part of the show. I loved it!

I liked the format of the show a lot, with the orchestra on stage, the nominated actors right up front, and the presentations by a group of five previous winners. It actually made the 'honour just to be nominated' cliche a little real, since you could tell that the nominees were touched by the tributes. Except maybe for Robert Downey Jr; he really drew the short straw in being 'acknowledged' by Cuba Gooding Jr.
And I liked seeing Kate Winslet win. I was thinking back to the episode of Extras that she was in where she was discussing how much she wanted to win an Oscar, and there's a truth to that: she looked more visibly happy (relieved) to win than any of the other nominees.

Really? I liked that part. Cuba did a good job considering how I thought he was completely out of place at the event as his career went down the tubes since his nod for Jerry Maguire.

^ my sister and I were joking if Cuba Gooding Jr. had to give back his Oscar before they would let him on stage for making such crappy movies since he won it.
It was one of the better Oscars I've watch in the last few years, even though I hadn't seen many of the nominated movies. I liked the opening musical number but the second one was horrible. I was glad that Heath Ledger won, I got pretty teared up during his family's speech. And I could have done without the Brangelina close up when Jennifer Aniston was presenting, that was awkward!

Yeah, guys left and right of you and being congratulated by Ben Kingsley and Adrian Brody; regardless of how eloquent or funny he is, it really lacked the gravity of the other acknowledgements.

Well, they needed a black fellow for the rainbow, and Denzel seems to have skipped the show...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the Chinese will give the Brits Hong Kong back for a year in exchange for one of their movies to the Oscars next year.
Although Penn's a great actor, and I didn't see that movie, watching the Wrestler on Saturday, can't say it was any better a performance then Rourke's. Especially when you consider Rourke's career (past, present, and future) is likely to follow the same lines of this movie. Once at a much higher level of his professional for a few years, down and out for over a decade, then really out of nowhere comes back to give everyone one last taste/trip down memory lane, and likely now rarely, if ever, to be heard of again.
If Penn's character/movie wasn't based on such a polorizing social commentary, (and it was voted on as such, as is always the case in Hollywood) Rourke wins hands down.
