Me and Burinator had a long argument about 'guns' about half a year ago....at least I could 'get' his point.

I don't even understand what Johnny is trying to say. That Heston and the NRA are putting 'guns' into the hands of children. So lets turn that around....lets get rid of the NRA, does that suddenly take the 'guns' out of the hands of children?

Its like drugs....except they've already taken that step, and the US has tried to 'ban' drugs. Has that solved anything?

Most of the people I know that live in the US and own guns, even fully automatic ones, are very safety oriented. There will always be accidents, even here in Canada, but I fully believe that educating people about firearms will go a LOT farther than just banning them and thinking it will solve anything.

Its like 'banning' drugs....it solved NOTHING.

Well I'm glad you get my point, because I'm not sure I do. I'm not sure what I think of guns anymore actually. My position may be changing a bit. I've talked to a gun owner at work quite a bit and even Penn & Teller's BS episode got me thinking. I don't quite buy the whole "more guns = more safe" argument, but I do think (particularly in the US) that more guns = more freedom. And if I had to fall on one side of the fence I would want to fall on the free side. And if I was an American I wouldn't be happy with the liberals trying to change the gun laws or more importantly interpretations of certain amendments.

Charlton Heston is Soylent Green?

(too many "cold dead hands" jokes already).

I didn't know he was big into civil rights. That's cool. I like that. I liked his movies too. Glad he had that cameo in the new Planet of the Apes, even if the movie wasn't that good.

Don't like the NRA myself, but I respect the man for standing up for what he believed in. I also think he got sandbagged by Moore, and handled it pretty well considering the circumstances.

I won't say I'll miss him. He had a good run after all. And he'll be remembered for a long time for those couple iconic lines in the movies.

This link will bring you to an article about Charlton Heston. At the bottom of the eulogy is a speech Charlton Heston gave that talks about his views on political activism and political correctness. I think it is a great speech:

I'm not quite there yet Rambo. I've still got big problems with guns and doubts about improving safety. Arguments from pro-gun people and anti-gun people both have their flaws. Does our constitution or charter say anything about gun ownership in Canada?

Praise the lord and pass the ammunition.

Kind of an odd speech. He talks up his civil rights work, his love of freedom and his dislike of political correctness. Then he brags about his personal role in getting Ice-T fired from Time-Warner because he was saying all sorts of things which were offensive to him (and oddly enough, very politically incorrect).

Seems just a little hypocritical.

If you hold a FAC, you can buy any rifle you want.

A handgun? Not so much.
