I love how easy it is to get into Chinook when going southbound on MacLeod: just turn straight off Macleod into the north parkade, down to the second level, and park 50 feet from the elevator, every time. Only problem is getting back out northbound: the easiest way is to take the tunnel over to the east side, and then around to the north side.

But it seems like they definitely need to do something similar for northbound traffic getting into Chinook: put an offramp to the east that takes northbound traffic down into a tunnel that passes under Macleod and straight into an underground parking lot.

No, I don't believe Cadillac Fairview owns any land on the East side of Macleod.

When I worked there I saw the early plans for the last expansion and there were a lot of big name stores that never ended up opening a store. I think they're planning to build something similar to South Coast Plaza in LA where there is a bridge that crosses the road to another building.
I know someone who works in chinnok who was just telling me last night that there are expansion plans that will go across macleod and be joined by a skywalk.

Dont care. I wouldnt go near that place if someone had a gun to my head.

Go ahead, pull the trigger. I'd be a happier man.

There should be a ringroad around Chinook so that reasonable people could avoid that place as though it were a nuclear test-zone.

Not anymore. That would be Rogers/Bell.

No it does not balance out. People have studied these things. The inner city subsidizes the 'burbs. That is fact, not the realm of opinion.

Which is directly exacerbated by subsidies to the 'burbs, by the way.

I think we've seen renderings in the past of this "skywalk" that would extend all the way to the LRT station.

Other rumours are that the Bay moves from its current location and expands to the SE corner of the site (tire store there right now) with underground parking below, thus giving them the ability to expand where the Bay is right now and give them more second floor space.

One of the things that I really thought was cool in Seattle was the underground connection of stores, like Nordstrom and JC Penney and some of the transit system. Probably not feasible or viable at this stage for Calgary, but it would be kind of neat to have.

depending on how you measure things, it is a 3 or 4 block walk, with lights at evey intersection, including a light that can be a longer than average wait to get across macleod.

There is 2 blocks between the train station and Chinook. 4 lights since I am pretty sure you can only cross Macleod on the north side. Since 2 of those lights are at the same intersection, you never really need to wait since one or the other will always be green.

If you added the distance from the station to the intersection and from Macleod to the Mall, maybe 3 blocks.

Google Maps says it is 500m walking, or 6 mins.

Where are you getting your information that this is where the expansion is happening? I can't find any details on the expansion other that it's a mixed use tower.

Not that pedestrians actually stop for any of those lights.

The logical place for an professional tower would be the old Jack Carter building. Easy access to the main mall too.
