I can assure you, that in Calgary, that is false. The wait times in emergency rooms in Calgary is embarrassing. There is not enough doctors or beds. Paramedics can only release a patient to a doctor that will treat them. So the Paramedics end up spending most of their time in the emergency room waiting with the patients. Unless your heart is stopped or you are bleeding profusely expect to wait several hours to get any help.

Clever Calgarians know that if you take the less-than-an-hour drives to High River, Okotoks or Turner Valley, there are almost no wait times in the clinics and hospitals there.

I guess it would have to depend on the emergency. As the most recent time we went my dads doctor specifically told us to go to the foothills hospital. I doubt those hospitals have the means to do anything if he really needed it. They would probably just end up transferring him to the foothills anyways. But for other injuries I will have to keep that in mind.

Be careful what you go there for. I live in the country, and I know that they wont take certain cases, you will end up going back to Calgary.
