If you are 18 or 19, and want to go to a place where you can get blitzed where a lot of other University students are doing the same, then Cowboys is the spot. You don't go to Cowboys to pick up a classy lady.

Cowboys is also the spot where a lot of famous celebrities will go. I told Teemu Selanne he sucked for beating Calgary, met Kevin Costner, Tie Domi, Dion Phaneuf, and drank out of the Grey Cup.

I agree that there are places like Broken City, or Hi-Fi, which actually play good music and the crowd isn't there to get ripped. But you have to remember that each establishment has their place.

One other thing, out of the large nightclubs (Cowboys, Mynt, Tantra, Roadhouse, Whiskey, Coyotes, Back Alley, etc.) Cowboys has the fewest undercover cops on duty, because they have the fewest number of fights. I believe they have 2 cops, whereas some bars have up to 12. They were also the first ones to install metal detectors.
HAHAHA!

Well, to be fair Simmer, you are there about 150 days out of the year, so the chances of you experiencing something cool like that are much higher than your average bar goer, myself included.

That is interesting about Cowboys having the fewest number of fights, do you think it has any link to the way they tend to screen their clientelle?

Edit: Stated differently - Simmer, can you give any insight on the issue whether Cowboys screens their crowds at the door? Specifically, have you had any discussion on the topic with the management you know, or is the topic sort of taboo in those parts?

Keep in mind that this thread was bumped from over two months ago and the racist bar talk ran it's course.

True.

The bump is somewhat relevant as there was an article in the Herald yesterday discussing the plans for the new development in the penny lane mall area - the death of Cowboys appears to be final.

Related to that point, I did hear something that Murray Edwards was involved with the development in some degree. Does anyone else know more about this, or if CNRL might be the major occupant of one of the new towers?

I stopped going to bars about 5 years ago, but I went to Cowboys alot when I was younger.

I remember getting into a drag it out nasty fight upstairs, getting escorted out with my opponent and starting the festivities up again down the street. The first real broken bone that wasn't hockey related was two broken knuckles.

I remember the handfull of girls that were just way too easy, maybe it was .25 cent beer night.

Some of the awful concerts, Vanilla Ice played there, Haywire, Loverboy.

It went from being a decent bar to a dirtbag motel, which surprised me.
