At this point it doesn't matter how long it will take it has to be done.

There's not really an alertnstive option.

Even if you wanted to im not sure you get trade/sign UFAs your way out of this situation.

They really need to hit rock bottom sooner then later otherwise we're just dragging this out. It already feels a little dragged out, considering we're three years out of playoffs and our highest pick has been 9th oa during that time.

Honestly the guy is tailor made for a tanking team. Decent enough attitude, durable, bloated salary and doesn’t really help you win.

What's more rock bottom than current last place? I don't see them making panic moves to drag this out either. They are in last place and supposedly taking calls on everyone. What's the issue?

Most of us said the schedule starts to even out at the Rangers game
Flames have 11 goals and 3 of 6 points since then...likely deserve at least one more

The comparison was with the Ducks and the start of their rebuild...they didn't have F all

They pretty much only traded expiring contracts and bit players. They kept Parenteau even though he was expiring because they didn't get offers they wanted. They traded two vets with term - Phaneuf, who had cratered (and was traded at the TDL, so they had him for the majority of the "tank" season, and Kessel, who was a lightning rod.

What they did have was a ton of injuries and bad goaltending from Bernier.

Funny - i just looked at an HF Board about Toronto going for Matthews that year and posters were saying (like they are now) "don't count on first overall - it's an 80% chance only.". And the replies were - "don't worry, Laine and Puljujarvi are fantastic anyway - it's only after that it gets dicey.

Reverse gear for the next 1st overall draft pick; I'm in! Another lose with a loser point, another point towards the McKenna pick.

bottom 5 payroll team achieves bottom 5 results.

The anomaly is nearly making the playoffs.

This gap is only going to widen while they’re reaching the floor with Sharangovich et al and other teams are spending north of $110M on real players.

This took me a full 12 hours to finally get. Well played. It doesn't help that I've never used Temu - so I'll ride that excuse.

There's no issue. I'm just referring to the people arguing about how long it will take. It doesn't really matter how long it takes at this point, it's the path we're on.

This strikes me as a touch optimistic. When the vets are gone, this team will have some growing pains.

At this point in the season, there are essentially no buyers.

To be fair, this poster has been in the it's too early to thrown in the towel camp for a while.

The past couple of losses via late 3rd period mishap has me rethinking that. Costly missed points they quite honestly couldn't afford to let slip away.

Dino says give them one more game... I think that's fair considering it's vs Nashville. Let's see how they do.

That's fair. I'm still in the camp that they need to rattle off four or five wins in a row sometime between now and mid-December to get back into it. Win one, lose one with an OT loss sprinkled in there isn't going to do it. If they win the next game, then they need to get on a streak. Playing .500 doesn't move them anywhere as most teams will play around that for at least some part of the season.

The leafs kept almost every single veteran that was helping them win next year and traded away almost no veterans to try to tank.

They also kept 32 year old PA Parenteau who was their second leading scorer and on an expiring contract. They kept Leo Komarov their third leading scorer as well. They kept 33 year old Brad Boyes as well.

If they were trying to tank they did a really ####ty job of it.

Let me understand. Flames fan here on CP are actively cheering for losses now?

I always respected the Flames for not tarnishing their integrity by losing on purpose.

I still think they are actively trying to win as an organization, which the right thing to do. In fact no leadership group would even openly choose to lose except loser organizations.

When the fans cheer for losing, they put a hex on their team.

See Edmonton & Buffalo on both points!

Always cheer to win!
