My understanding was that when Theodore went out they could replace him but maybe I misunderstood the rules.

At this level when you get a shift against a line centered by Cirelli or Bennett it's a break from being under duress. You're probably winning those minutes, unless you're Finland, because they don't have much depth.
Against the USA, unless you're on the PK, one of Crosby, McDavid or Mackinnon should be on the ice basically 100% of the time IMO.
