Between Broberg, Nurse and cap growth, Bouchard is going to want at least 11M. Funny thing is, that’s an Edmonton only number. Anywhere else, he’s at 7 or 8

return is objectively brutal for the Sharks. Pittsburgh just got a 3rd and a 6th for taking on Cody Glass, who is both cheaper and younger than Ceci, and only gave up an ECHLer in the deal. How do you only get a 3rd for taking on Ceci while also giving up Emberson, who actually flashed some potential last season? Especially when you know the GM on the other line is both in cap hell and under time crunch? Grier was holding all the cards here. Way to get them off the hook, jeez.

Mike Grier is no good. I guess you can leave the Oilers, but the Oilers never really leave you.

Since Broberg just signed a deal that pays him $286,250 for every NHL point he's scored (regular season and playoffs) then Bouchard as a direct comparable should start at.....*checks math*....$65.5 million AAV

Their D still sucks tremendously, Broberg match or not.

Have fun selling McDavid, Drai and Bouch on taking team friendly deals when Broberg is making x2+ what he should. That locker room is going to be an interesting one.

I dunno Ceci was actually pretty good in the playoffs. Besides Ekholm I don't know who else is actually a defensive d-man on that team. Nurse is just a liability lol

There is nowhere where he is a 7-8 million dollar player. The guy scores in the playoffs at a Cale Makar rate and in the regular season he was not far behind him.

None of these guys are worth paying a premium for. St. Louis was dumb to pay that much for middling guys. Edmonton stupid for the apparent match. Stupid all around.

Nothing wrong with that IMO....just sucks because it helps the grease.
An Emberson's an Emberson, but the 3rd round pick could be anything. It could even be an Emberson!

LOL

Situation matters.

In any other situation, Bouchard is a weak 2nd pairing defenseman who can put up 50+ points as the PP quarterback. On the best PP we have seen in years, where he plays the full 2 minutes every PP, of course he is putting up more points.

I mention it casually every time the Oilers seemingly find themselves in a bind that they themselves created, that some team always ends up bailiing them out and shocker, it's happened again, and this time by both Vancouver and San Jose, division rivals, no less! Lol.

Teams arent bailing them out , teams are trying to improve their own clubs

Teams don’t care if the Oilers are good - they only care if their team is getting better

SJ just got a 3rd for “free” . They are better today than yesterday from an asset position .

The Flames don’t have an extra 3rd today .

Is SJ really the stupid team here …. Maybe they could have got more - and maybe another team blinks first and they get nothing

How do other players feel about a teammate that signed an offer sheet with another team?

How do you feel at work if a coworker signs a deal to move to another company and their existing company matches or pays them more to retain them ?

I’ve never had hard feelings towards that person. Not sure why NHL would be any different . They realize it’s a business first

This reasoning suggests that every trade is a good one for both teams involved, because they were simply the teams involved.

Doubt anyone buys that.

I honestly don't think they'd care much in this situation.

This turns out better for the Sharks if the Oilers actually match and waive Holloway. Otherwise I think Grier buckled.

I was hoping they'd match all the way. It compounds their issues and makes them worse. Was very happy they found trade partners. There were all sorts of ways this could have planned out and every single one of them is an Oilers loss. Great day to hate that team.

Now that the Coyotes aren't around to bail out cap strapped teams, I guess Grier wants the Sharks to assume that role since it worked out so well for the Coyotes. He's done a masterful job of making the team on the ice terrible but I kind of feel he's in over his head rebuilding a team.

I suspect teams were asking for a better asset including SJ.
And then some team blinked and said they would take a 3rd.
At that point Edmonton would tell all teams they can get a 3rd, and go for the higest possible one offered - which would be SJ.

Well Bouchard was tied for 4th in even strength points by dmen with Makar, so it is not like he only scored on the PP. If you took all the PP points away he would still be a 47 point dman.
