I'm not sure this trade is as big of a steal as 9th overall would imply.
McLeod brings some pretty good qualities at the NHL level. Just lacks killer instinct. Sometimes a trade can wake a guy up.
Savoie brings scoring and only scoring. As a small guy who is quick but not fast that can fail to translate well to the NHL level.
That's my first thought as well. Savoie is small. Sure he may look good against other boys in the minor leagues but the big club is a different story. McLeod is already a proven NHL forward. It's more of a salary dump for the Oilers and a gamble on an unproven prospect that may be used for another trade. Savoie doesn't take up cap space now either. Glad the Flames never took a small forward in their first rounds of drafting this year.

McLeod is good on the PK. Foegele and McLeod out hurts them on the PK.
Hopefully Savoie doesn't make the team and does not bring them anything good at the deadline.
Buffalo should have got more, but hopefully the positive impact doesn't help the Oilers this year.
I think the thing that surprised me the most reading about this trade, is that McLeod is somehow 6'3". If this guy used his size, even at all, to go with his speed he could have been extremely effective. He seems to avoid contact as a 1st priority.
Meh, doesn't help the Oilers while they're still in the window. Savoie will slide into the lineup right after McDavid & Drai leave.
Knowing the Oilers, this kid will play immediately. He’ll probably get 1st line minutes right out of the gate with the Wonder Twins and get some PP time as well. As usual they’re loading up on offence to try and make up for their sub-par D and goaltending. Rinse, repeat.
