I feel bad for Conroy. We all love the guy, but he’s walking into an impossible situation. We have a bad team, full of terrible contracts that he won’t be able to move.
If Iggy joins the organization I sure hope Kipper becomes the goaltending coach.
Remember how much fun we had laughing at the Oilers for creating an old boys network of players from the past glory years? Yeah, good times.
I like the hiring of Conroy. Seems like a real student of the game and willing to build a team in the current style of the league. I hope the Flames move forward with surrounding him with the best and brightest and not just a bunch of guys that played with him or were heroes of the past.

Happy with this.
Lots on his plate to get going though; we'll find out fast if we like his direction.
Needs the right coach to work with the new core locked into contracts he's inheriting & has some big expiring contracts to deal with.
Gonna be a busy year for Connie.

What glory? Mark Hunter would have been the glory years.
All Conroy Iggy and Kipper know is pain.

Huberdeau, Kardi and Weever but after that it's a decent team to step into for a new GM. Lucic and his 5.25 are done this summer, next year ALL of Backlund, Lindholm, Toffoli, Hanifin, Tanner and Zadorov are UFA's. That's a combined 27 million free next summer.
Conroy needs to make decisions now which direction his team is going, who he will bring back and who will he ship out. Yes those contract needs to be replaced but if the answer is rebuild it's not incredibly terrible. Backlund and Toffoli are two potential players to ship out, with good returns.
Feels like he has to decide on being fully competitive next season or building for years 3-5.
Whatever choice you make, you're going to get burned at some point.
If a certain player won't re-sign (lindholm) the choice isn't even yours.
You cant let lindholm or hanifin walk. But if you go all in with long term contracts and they miss again it's disastrous.
But you dont want to punt on your first season as GM with a competitive veteran roster.

It was a joke. Did you miss the part about Kipper shooting beer cans at Markstrom?

Surely the other old crappy GMs interviewed this week were just token interviews to say they covered all bases. It was going to be Conroy all along, I like to think.
If this is true, conducting interviews with no real intentions to possibly hire them is pretty silly. Waste of time for everyone involved. Feels very “process-y” for the sake of it, which is dumb. Oh well whatever, but I’m sure every day burned before the draft without naming a GM is wasted time for said candidate to get to work.
Not a huge fan of the hire. Other finalists for the job were a complete joke just to make this hire seem reasonable. Bottom line is they should have interviewed better candidates.
My biggest worry is that Conroy is just a yes man to Edwards. He's been around the organization for a decade and that's how they've operated during that time.
Fresh outside voice would have been way better but it seems clear they didn't want to go that route.
I'm expecting more of the same for the next decade.
