Not Treliving's fault at all.
|
Well he has let the sane guy ruin multiple goalies over the last 10 years. Seems to me BT has a goalie coach issue and instead of firing him he promoted him.

Yeah, Sigalet coached Markstrom to 2nd in Vezina voting last year in his 2nd season as a Flame.
Then in year 3 he finally broke through and "ruined" him
Sounds like a sound argument for sure.

Can't help but feel this deadline was an opportunity to have made some positive changes for the future. Instead the can is kicked down the road until the summer.
I don't hate the idea of bringing back a similar team next year and I bet they'll be more competitive. Just doesn't feel like a team that is building toward something though.

The other option is to see how the season goes. If goaltending improves the Flames are almost automatic for the POsz. If they don’t then yeah, trade the pending UFAs.
|
Thats the other part of the problem I'm getting at. They might be good, and then they could easily walk 1/4 of the team to UFA. They've put themselves in a weird spot.

Scoring Winger

Welp, I hope they lose every game down the stretch and get some higher picks. Cause this team aint gonna go on a .750 winning clip down the stretch from what we've seen through the first 3/4 of the season. Just lost 4 straight and now we bolster the team? Nice. The crazy thing is, there's nothing wrong with the moves they made today, other than the fact it will hurt their draft position even more.
Jeeze this last 9 months as a Flames fan has sucked all the optimism out of me that I had for this team. I won't keep complaining in the forums about it and I'll admit if they got into the playoffs I'd hop right back on board, but damn ever since the Johnny/Tkachuck fiasco this team has had a dark cloud hanging over it and I was really hoping to see even a minor future's move at this deadline. Super disappointing all around.
I'll see myself out

They've lost 24 one goal games mostly due to a goalie who went from a 0.922 save % to a .889 save % and you want to fire the GM because you are a simpleton.
|
There you go again, calling people names. Most games are one goal games, that is the most common variety, not some novelty you are imagining. The problem isn't that Markstrom's game fell off a cliff, the problem is Treliving did dick all about it.
I have been piling up reasons to fire Treliving since 2019. Now you tell me, between 2019 and today, what has Treliving done to warrant yet another extension? I don't want to hear about all the things you don't think were his fault, despite you sounding next level deluded there, what I want to know is what actions (as you see them) has Treliving been responsible for that makes him deserving of keeping his job.
I genuinely try here. I really do. When Treliving's contract was last expiring I started a thread examining all of his trades and acquisitions up until that point. I believe I was more than fair in that analysis. But the well of good faith has run dry. This man is managing this franchise into perpetual mediocrity.

I do think the Market dried up a bit as teams got what they wanted.
Let's look at what pieces moved for a 1st:
NJD: Meier
NYI: Horvat
LA: Gavrikov and Korpisalo
Boston: Orlov and Hathaway
TOR: O'Relly and Accari
TOR: McNabb and Lafferty
Ottawa: Chychrun
Wash: Sandin
Edmonton: Ekholm
Tampa: Jeannot
I'm actually not sure what trade the Flames could have been involved in instead.
Closest ones would be Horvat and Lindholm - which happened a month ago now and before most were calling for the Flames to sell.
And maybe McNabb and Tanev...
But really don't see a lot of comparables actually to what the Flames had to sell.

Comes down to the fact that I don't think they were in the market for a first. They were looking for player for player deals.

GOAT!
|
Step 1: Wait for draft lottery results
Step 2: Offer anything off our roster plus our picks for the next 3 years for the 1st overall pick.
Step 3: Go "off the board" and draft the 4th highest ranked stay-at-home defenceman from the WHL.
Step 4: Watch the next team draft Bedard.
Step 5: Continue to Calgary Flame for the next 40 years.
