The Islanders are outshooting the Lightning. The volume of chances is roughly equal but the Islanders are actually the ones dominating possession. Expected goals favour NYI 1.70 to 1.29.

The puck-hunger, tenacity on the forecheck etc by the Isles is impressive.

That surprises me, watching the 2nd and the 3rd here, it has felt more like the Isles have scored opportunistically and the Lightning have had more possession and more methodical play, just no goals.

Strange, despite only just becoming a 2-0 game I thought it's been a pretty dominant game by the Isles so far.

Right now, Lightning can't even get out of their own zone.

High end skill by Point in tight there to recognize the bottom of the net is covered and the need to elevate the puck

Or, big loss for the Lightning!

Still amazed the flames took Mason McDonald, Hunter Smith and Brandon Hickey all before homegrown Brayden Point.

Some call the Islanders boring but I call that a good team that has fully bought into a system that works.

Definitely sucks, but trying to find a team who hasn't done things similar in their drafting history is a bit of a fool's errand

Exactly. I don’t think most fans would mind their teams being a little less exciting if it meant having a chance to be in the cup finals

Point's 91pts lead his Moose Jaw team by 36 and only 3 other draft eligible players had more points that year. I doubt you could find a bigger draft mistake on a homegrown talent.
One things for sure, Treliving/Burke at that draft was a complete failure

What?!
Seriously?
I can't believe I haven't heard that before. And he was right under their nose the whole time!

So why was he passed on 78 times and by every team in the league multiple times?
Where he is from is totally irrelevant for drafting...it would have been a good pick obviously but it wasn't a flames specific mistake considering 29 other teams also passed

Two things can be true at the same time. Under the NHL as it is currently constructed and the way the officiating works in the playoffs, this is a good team tat has bought into a system that works.
And they're incredibly boring.
So were the mid-1990s Devils.
Seriously, does anyone want to watch 7 games of that, much less in the SCF? If anyone does, well... #### them, I guess. They're wrong. This is bad hockey.
