Yep, don't get me wrong. It's super lucky.

I dont get the stetcher thing, I like him but if he wasn't from Richmond no ones going this crazy
Hes a number 5 guy who can step up and play top 4 minutes temporarily, that's a valuable thing for sure
But with the flat cap, I dont mind taking the chance that Rafferty can replace him at what is half the price

By a lot offensively. Probably a little worse defensively. Overall, a fair amount better.

How is that worse than often injured 10-20 points for $4.5M?
And Schmidt doesn't even miss that many games to injury. His big absence in 2018-19 is because he got suspended for failing a PED test.

Because the 20 points came with better defence. And if Schmidt fails another PED test, hell get even more.

There is another year and Tanev is a better defensive player...I think he will shine more on a good team
failing a PED test is worse than an injury IMO
I would take either guy/contract...seems like only one was available to the Flames so its kinda pointless to debate.
I feel like a broken record but every good trade/signing doesn't get run by Tre first. Its either Tanev or no Tanev...Flames D looks pretty solid to me

Vegas wins the big picture deal by reading 2 effective yet overpaid assets for a 3rd and a 4th and then signing a legit superstar number 1 D with the cap savings.
I agree with the notion this is 2 division rivals helping g each other out. I think Vancouver was really all in on OEL and when that fell through there wasn’t much left to replace the lost Tanev. I think Schmitt is overpaid but not a horrible contract (definitely no worse than what we paid Tanev) and a 3rd round pick is getting to that throw away category (used to trade up a spot or 2 in the draft or for a deadline pick like Gus). I think this helps Vancouver for a cheap price and totally worth it for Vegas to sign Pietrangelo

So the Canucks upgrade on Tanev
Love this pickup! Schmidt is a smooth skating puck mover that plays a high tempo game the Canucks like to play.
He and Hughes on different pairings would be great for our transition game.
Another name were getting linked with is Weegar. If we land him that's another upgrade on Stecher!

Yet still worse than the bubble team from last year

How do you figure?
I get it their goaltending is worse and they lost Toffoli but when your best 2 players are playing on their elc you should expect that team to get better than the year before.

Well with less than 2 million dollars in cap space and Gaudette yet to be signed this scenario seems likely.

It's a good pickup by the Canuckleheads but why do teams, especially division rivals, keep bailing them out of cap hell? It just doesn't sit right for many fans!
Tanev at 4x4.5 or Schmidt 5x5.95 plus a 3rd wasn't a choice Tre had so why are people debating which deal is better? Get serious folks!

Markstrom covered a lot of warts, just like Kipper did for the Flames

They were a bubble team with Vezina level goal tending
Defensively they are worse too, not a good combo
I bet they struggle to make the playoffs
