Not many people have mentioned Dallas, but they were really good last night. The Flames were pretty sharp for the most part. They were passing really well but it wasn't leading to overly dangerous chances and Bishop was excellent.

Disappointing that they lost, but the Stars are winning a lot of games because they are a solid team that plays very aggressively at the defensive end with a giant in their net to save the day when they mess up. I'm not as down on the team as many here after that one.

The Flames bottom 6 forwards need to generate more chances though. Hopefully Treliving has some kind of plan to improve the line up a bit and isn't just waiting out Gaudreau's slump.

Monny will be lucky to score 15 goals on that line.

He needs Johnny more than anyone.

I think this is simply what this core of players is. Good enough to get you into the playoffs 50% of the time. The worst part for me is that the entertainment value is so poor. This team is every bit as uninteresting as the 2017/18 team. I really feel bad for the fans forking out a lot of money to watch these players go through the motions.
It's just a terrible product most nights that I find myself turning off more often than not. These players are playing like they expect last year's success to just come to them without actually working for it. Outside of Tkachuk and Lindholm there isn't much to be excited about in terms of forwards who move the needle consistently and the rest of team looks like they can't be bothered.

I hate to agree with a guy named Hot_Flatus. But I find it tougher and tougher to sit through NHL games, let alone Flames game. I've found that my patience with the Flames is short, if they're playing like they are right now they become my secondary show that I'll flip to during commercials.

I just don't know if I like the current style of pro hockey all that much anymore.

The last thing I want to see is Sam Bennett in the top six. Guy does nothing for this team

Why not swap Ryan/Backlund for a game? See how it goes

Mangiapane-Ryan-Tkachuk
Bennett-Backlund-Frolik

I've seen worse lines.

Dallas is a really good defensive team, and Bishop always plays lights out against the Flames so the sky is not falling, but this team could really use an upgrade or shake up to the forward core. The bottom six hasn't produced, and we're missing one more consistent top 6 forward. I think that solution in the top 6 likely doesn't come until the deadline (if at all), but now may be as good a time as any to inject some life into this team in the form of a call up and perhaps putting our top 4 forwards into two pairs rather than loading up the top line to make the team a bit more difficult to defend against.

^I also don't think Derek Ryan is a 2nd liner. He's perfectly suited to the role he has.
For me the bottom line is that the 2nd line is missing two players. If you had a stronger RW - I think Backlund can be OK in centre. If you had a stronger centre, you might be OK with a gap at wing.

I tend to agree. I know they had to eliminate some of the violence from the game knowing what we know now but...most games are so passionless. It feels like guys are going through the motions. If it's a neutral game where i have no rooting interest...forget about it. I'd rather watch Netflix.

That's exactly the impression I get going all the way back to the start of game 2 in the playoffs.

Every team has games where the effort is there but things just don't go their way but there's been too many games where it's felt like with a better effort the result might have been different.

I still wish we had some better offensive players to play with Tkachuk, but I really didn't mind that game much at all.

Good start, powerplay was strong, some real decent 5v5 looks, Talbot was solid. They definitely lost momentum in the second, but that game was easily winnable with some small bounces going the other way. It's not a perfect team, but I still think they are on the verge of going on a nice, long run. Finally getting some practice time in will help.

I know Mangiapane is everyone's new favorite pet, but if he could lift a puck or take a pass he would have had 2 pretty easy goals last night.

Yeah, how big of a boost would it have been for the team to score on that first chance a minute in. I thought the Flames came out great and had some decent looks before Dallas settled in.

Dallas played a good defensive game and didn't give the Flames much.

On the way in this morning on the radio they mentioned how there are a bunch of playoff teams that just seem to be struggling to find some consistency early on (Calgary, Vegas, Nashville, Toronto, and TB). Just a weird start to the season.

As bad as they are, if look at their results this (10-8-3 23 points) vs last (12-8-1 25 points) they are in the ball park. I think expectations are what is making this so frustrating.

I'm in the same boat. Don't know if the game has changed, or my tastes have changed. Maybe both. I just don't see the entertainment value in the NHL that I used to.

I think for me the inconsistency in officiating is a part of it. I'd rather they go back to letting everything go than calling some penalties, some of the time.

I only managed to catch the 3rd period but the Flames honestly looked pretty good to me. Other than the absolutely brutal miss by Backlund on the 3-on-1 and the subsequent rush the other direction that lead to the GWG, I felt like the Flames controlled play - their powerplay is finally looking deadly, with some nice quick east-west passing that you see on other teams' top powerplays. Looks like the extra practice time might be helping, albeit one period watched being a pretty small sample size. Gaudreau still made a few bad decisions but also made a few really nice zone entries and passes from what I saw - hopefully he can fight his way out of this funk.

Maybe if people are looking for more entertainment value they should skip the first two periods and only watch the third :P

Sounds like clock struck 12 last playoff season with the Avs and now all the players we have turned into Brouwers/Neals all of a sudden. So, how does a team like Dallas get to ice a team with Benn, Seguin, Pavelski, Perry, and Bishop. In addition to having Hanzal and Radulov under contract?

This team is also giving up points even when they winning. They can't keep on having this mentality of playing for a tie and then trying to win it in OT with 3-on-3 every single game.
