Help, save, whatever.

Great deal for the Devil's!
They went from being a boring trap team to now having one of the more exciting teams on paper.
Don't they still.need a goalie though? I feel.like the was their problem last year.

Pretty sure they'll ride Schneider and Blackwood for at least one more year. I think if there is no improvement with Schneider, he'll be let go.

great move by Nashville and cleared up space for there big acquision. Say what you want but Poole has horseshoes and makes some prudent moves keeping them competitive. curious to see if they keep Turris

Somewhat surprised that sub ban did not have a no trade clause

He was supposed to, but it was nullified when Montreal traded him.

He had a no movement clause actually, but Montreal trades him before it came into effect, similar to Jeff Carter being dealt out of Philly.
Nashville chose not to recognize it as is their right under the cba, so Subban has no trade restrictions for the remainder of his contract.
I think, fairly, that has become a major issue with players accept term during their RFA contract period: they don't want to negotiate less money for trade restrictions and then be traded before those restrictions take effect.
Better to take lesser term and maybe even dollars to make sure you are able to negotiate a ntc or nmc at 26 years of age that comes into effect immediately rather than years down the line.

Shero has done a great job of capitalizing on a couple of great trade opportunities. He took full advantage of Chiarelli and turned Larson into Hall. He then gets so lucky winning the lottery in 2 of 3 years. Snagging Subban on the cheap due to the cap space is another steal.

I see this as a straight up cap move...$9 M is a lot for a D-Man, and they've gotta pay some other guys.

I don't think this deal has anything to do with the rumblings about PK in the room at all. It's a cap space love and a big steal by New Jersey. It's either keep Josi or keep PK and keeping Josi is an easy move.

As a hockey trade this makes sense to me but from a team standpoint I'm not so sure. PK was (and still is) a fantastic ambassador for hockey in a non traditional market like Nashville. He brought so much more than his on ice talent to the organization and now that is gone.
Not sure he can have the same affect with the Devils organization in a huge market like NYC.

I think the fact that the Preds did get positive value back (albeit not much) speaks about the value Subban has as a player despite the massive 9m caphit for 3 more years.

I'm still blown away by this trade.
You can get full value or you can get full cap space, but you can't get both and it takes a smart GM to figure out which they will prioritize and how they will get it.
With this deal, the Miller trade to Vancouver and the marleau trade to Carolina, it makes me believe Tre was holding on too tightly.
You don't need to 'win' every trade, you just need to make positive incremental adjustments.
Great trade for Nashville. I bet these picks come back into play by the trade deadline next year.

New jersey will be a fun team to follow next season. They will have a very different look.

I read that Subban is the biggest cap hit ever moved in a trade and he has been dealt twice. The second biggest is Weber

I think Blackwood is developing into a legitimate NHL starter. He was very good last year....and Schneider was as well when he came back from injury late

But this is CP. Expectation is Tre needs to win every trade.
