(JACKINTHEBOX) I was 21 in 04 and it was so much fun. Now I would feel like that old guy that’s creeping on some young women. But with that said, I’ll probably hit up a pub and hang out with the same people that I did back then. And my wife who was also with me in 04
and what is your wife's perception then and now of the 04 red mile. Did she ever feel pressured , unsafe or harassed? If you dont mind my asking that is.
EDIT: cant quote you for some reason

I was at game 3 vs Anaheim in 2015, when Johnny tied it in the final 20 sec and Backs finished it in OT (sadly our last playoff win; it feels like a while ago now), and hit the Mile after. It was lightly raining and was still bonkers. That's the closest the city has felt to 04; after eliminating the Canucks in the first round through the end of the Ducks series. Felt so good, man I want that again..

I would love to hear how some of the young women from 04 feel on the matter now.

There was controversy over a website in 04 that had a bunch of the pictures. IIRC legal action took place and it got taken down.
2015 had zero of it. Chants happened the first game on a Sunday on 17th but they were few and far between and afterwards social media critisized anyone who did it. The following games had zero titilations.
Game 2 and 5 will be on weekends so maybe it gets a bit crazy. 2015 highlights include (after we won the series vs Van - each series gets crazier) a random guy with a 36 pack of kokanee crowd surfing bombing them across the crowd to people, fireworks in the middle of the crowd (shut down quickly, I think the police even arrested simeone..), many chants, and dickbag taxis refusing service to anyone.

No matter what happens this spring, it will never be the same as it was in 2004. Part of that is the fact that those of us who were there in 2004 are in completely different stages of our lives. I'm no longer a 20 year old university student that could dedicate 2 months to school during the day and to 17th at night. Don't get me wrong, I'll be watching the games somewhere, but it's not the same.
Hope those who are of the same age this year do some spontaneous celebrating wherever they want.
|
Thankfully, we have current-day 20-year olds now that I'm sure have the same ability to party as we did in '04. I was 19 in '04, so in my prime party days. I too believe I lost 5 years of my life in that run, as well as putting myself into debt for years. As someone who no longer drinks, I'm still really excited to see what the Red Mile looks like this year. Time to pass the torch! GFG.

Police aim to control Red Mile playoff crowds with 'meet-and-greet' approach
https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...on-17th-avenue
Quote:
Police expect their primary focus to be on the area around 17th Avenue and 5th Street S.W. or 6th Street S.W., where crowds typically start to develop.
The service has a three-phase plan for road closures, depending on crowd sizes. The agency is expecting to close the road from Macleod Trail S.E. to 8th Street S.W., and will put up signs in advance about parking in the area.

Are there going to be outhouses/public toilets set up? You have a bunch of drunk people who are going to need to piss/#### from all the beer and pub food. Business only open their restrooms to patrons and there's already a big shortage of public washrooms in the city.
In '04, I remember pretty much every single side street off of 17th became a massive public urinal with rows of men lined up pissing on walls/fences and groups of women huddled behind dumpsters.
No one ever talks about it, but it needs to be considered.

I assume there will be a beer garden outside the Dome, where a lame cover band will perform Mustang Sally, Old Time Rock And Roll, and Mony Mony.

Street crowds won’t form unless they win at least one round.

Haha possibly, but at that 2015 game I was at, it was Fitz & the Tantrums doing a free show. Which for 4 years ago, was surprisingly pretty current.
But maybe you're right and we'll get We Built this City on Rock & Roll covers

I could see the Saturday and Friday games adding more activity earlier on this year. Usually the Flames don't have home ice and the home playoff games are during the week.
Also, if the Flames announce a viewing party set-up as hinted by that PR guy on twitter, there might be a lot more fans heading down to Stampede park, especially on Saturday and next Friday.

Heard on CBC this afternoon that there would be outhouses. Not sure how many or where though.

FWIW in 2015 they didn't care. I mean people weren't walking up to cops doing it but mid crowd was fine.
Also had plenty of alley peeing. Outhouses would be very wise.
