Flames are being proactive regarding how do they deal with Trudeau's weed decision. Sure they are right or wrong lumping smoking in general into this decision but my assumption is they are mainly concerned about fans having a toke then going back in to watch the game.
That's my guess.

that's too bad... though, it was only a matter of time I suppose...
if they ever get a new building, a smoking area could easily be designed for if they want to keep that sort of thing around.
As an ex-smoker, I have a lot of sympathy for smokers: its a damn hard thing to stop doing...i still crave it on occasion, 5 years on...

The whole security excuse really bugs me.
When trucks plowing through pedestrians is such an effective way to cause mass casualties the concept of gate driven screening and keeping people inside doesn't make sense.
Setting up a pedestrian only perimeter then a security gate, the a secondary perimeter and then the building like the Olympics did may be effective. It would also allow for plenty of room for a smoking area.
It's also such a low risk item that it's more about being seen to be doing something then doing something.

I'd be curious to see any studies on if barriers to smoking help people quit (or stop people from even starting).
I can only see this helping. You'd think that the harder it becomes to smoke the less people will do it.
Why is smoking still around again?

Since back then you encountered smoking in every bar, restaurant, and waiting room - more or less every public space - I imagine most people not smoking found it unpleasant, but hate is a bit strong. We seem to have lost any distinction between those two feelings - mild annoyance and intolerable outrage.

That reminds me of the last Hip concert a couple of years ago.
As usual, once the lights went down and the band hit the stage, you could start smelling the distinctive odour of the Devil's Cabbage. For the most part, there wasn't any reaction from the people in the crowd. Then, about an hour into the show, someone nearby lit a cigarette, and the reaction was completely different. People were looking around trying to see who it was and a woman behind me kind of yelled out, "Is somebody smoking?" Whoever it was, must have put it out pretty quickly because the smell went away.
The contrast of the two reactions made me laugh, especially when you consider which one was illegal.

I guess you will have to bring a bag of editables to the game or just vape your weed while walking the concourse...

####, this might be the tipping point for my father in law to not buy season tickets again. He's going to be pissed.
And my non Flames fan best friend that I usually go with won't want to go now.
Oh well, skip going to the games and save up for Vegas in March.

The Flames should recognize that people going out to blaze during intermission is going to drastically increase the civility of the crowd.

It'll be interesting when I go from the Alumni Lounge to my accessible seats on the concourse level, I have to re-enter. Which in itself pisses me off everytime I have to wait in line to get back into the building.

Personally, the enjoyment of live hockey is far above and beyond the detriment of not being able to have a cigarette for 4 hours. I can see the addiction being strong, but I would truly hate for it to be so strong that it stopped me from doing things I enjoy.

It's more of a "why blow $300 on a night where I can't even have a smoke". Greedy POSs don't want to spend money on security? The smoke pit is fun, that's the only place I actually talk to other fans/opposing fans.
Buying a bigger TV and drinking good alcohol at home has a growing appeal.

I believe this is exactly what an addiction is.
